"You see, my father taught me all the ins and outs of war. A true war monger he was. Real bastard, too."
Sasuken recalls Teridax[1]

Teridax was a powerful and ambitious Makuta who preceded Blackout as the Grand Master of the Brotherhood of Makuta.

History[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

In 627 CMT,[2] Teridax would often bully a novice Makuta named Starok, which led Starok to leave to create the Reformed Second Brotherhood of Makuta. Teridax was enraged by this and sent an army of Makuta to kill Starok, but Starok convinced these Makuta to join the Reformed Second Brotherhood of Makuta instead.[3]

In 20,980 CMT, Miserix ordered Teridax, his trusted lieutenant, to end the Matoran Civil War. To this end, Teridax abducted a large number of Matoran combatants and released dangerous predatory Rahi on them; the resulting massacre scared the rest of the Matoran into laying down their weapons and successfully brought an end to the war. To prevent the possibility of other civil wars occurring in the future, Miserix assigned senior members of the Brotherhood of Makuta each a region of the Matoran Universe for them to watch over: Teridax was assigned to the prominent location of Metru Nui as a reward for stopping the war.[4]

At around the same time, Teridax discovered the truth about Mata Nui and began to work on a plan to overthrow and replace him as the controller of the Great Spirit Robot and the ruler of the Matoran Universe. The first stage in his plan was to overthrow Miserix and become the new ruler of the Brotherhood of Makuta, which he achieved with the help of several other Makuta.[4]

Ruler of the Brotherhood[edit | edit source]

As the ruler of the Brotherhood of Makuta, Teridax donned the Kanohi Kraahkan, the Mask of Shadows, a symbol of Makuta leadership.[4]

At some point, Teridax created a son, Sasuken, through unknown means.[5] Teridax trained Sasuken in the art of war, but at the same time neglected him and beat him if the Rahi Sasuken created had minute flaws or if Sasuken ever lost a battle.[1] As Teridax worked towards his goal, he discovered Ynot, a low-ranking Makuta in the Brotherhood who thought little of himself but had incredible potential. Teridax realized that even if he failed in his plan, Ynot could succeed where he could not, so he tasked Sasuken with monitoring Ynot's movements and aiding him whenever necessary.[6]

In 50,080 CMT,[2] the Brotherhood of Makuta discovered a new island on the surface of Aqua Magna called Shinobi-Nui. Teridax issued Tablets of Release to Sasuken, Ynot, Hokagetsu, Asumaru, Trixitin, and Kurenitsu, and ordered them to scout the island in return for being promoted to higher ranks upon their return.[7][8] Teridax chose Ynot for this mission in the hope that it would help solve his confidence issues, and Sasuken because he was too cocky and needed an "attitude adjustment".[9] Teridax also gave Sasuken another scare before he left Destral by using his Kraata power of Illusion to make it seem like a Rahi Nui was outside Sasuken's chamber window.[10] When Sasuken jumped out of the window at the Rahi Nui, Teridax dispelled the illusion,[11] then did the same trick four additional times to torment Sasuken.[12] Once Teridax had had enough fun, he ordered Sasuken and the other five Makuta he had gathered to embark on their mission to Shinobi-Nui.[13]

In 90,080 CMT,[2] Teridax replaced his second-in-command, Icarax,[14] with Blackout,[2] though Icarax remained a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta.[14]

In 99,080 CMT, Teridax infected the core processor of Mata Nui with a virus that sent Mata Nui into a deep sleep. This caused Mata Nui's health to deteriorate and would lead to his eventual death a thousand years later.[4]

In 100,080 CMT, Teridax was banished to another dimension by Malygos so that Blackout could rule the Brotherhood of Makuta in his place,[2] but not before Blackout took Teridax's Kanohi Kraahkan and kept it as a symbol of leadership.[15]

Later that year, Ynot used a ruby that was given to him by Artrix to summon Teridax. Blackout fought the former Makuta leader and defeated him.[16]

Death, Resurrection, & Death[edit | edit source]

Teridax died at some point in the 50,000 years that followed. He was mourned by Sasuken.[6]

In 150,080 CMT, Teridax was one of the many deceased characters who were resurrected by the Composer in the Underground to participate in the Tournament of the Dead,[17] where he found himself standing next to three other formerly-dead beings: Helryx, Xintun, and Shattered Mirror Ynot. Helryx immediately recognized Teridax and tried to fire a blast of water at him, but found that nothing happened because the body she had been resurrected in did not have access to her powers.[17] After the Composer informed the contestants that they would need to form Pacts by sorting themselves into pairs in order to participate in the tournament because those who did not would be returned to death, he bestowed a Pin upon each of them that contained their life force and physical strength. Although all four of them could have survived by organizing themselves into two pairs, Teridax immediately tried to grab Helryx's Pin, which prompted her to flip him over and take his in self-defence. As Teridax could not survive without his life force, he was returned to death.[18]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Later that year, Sasuken revealed to Blackout that Teridax had ordered Sasuken to monitor and assist Ynot, because Teridax had first noticed Ynot's incredible potential thousands of years ago.[6] Blackout responded by saying that Teridax was a fool who had "wasted thousands of years trying to take over a robot's body", and that while Teridax "busied himself harassing Matoran", Blackout had gained more control over the Brotherhood with each day that passed, but Teridax failed to notice or realize Blackout's intentions until it was too late.[19]

In the Battle of Mordor, Sasuken telepathically trapped Uterio di Armechio inside his own mind and told him about Teridax. Sasuken admitted that he had "daddy issues" due to Teridax's poor treatment of him, but declared that he would fight to survive because Teridax had given him a mission to fulfil (to help and monitor Ynot).[1] Ynot eventually found out about Sasuken's mission and told him: "Teridax put you here to be the check to my mate. Don't you forget that. I ever get out of hand, it's you that needs to put me down".[20]

In 150,083 CMT, F-Blackout brought the version of Teridax's mask, the Kraahkan, from the far future to the present and gave it to Ynot. F-Blackout explained that he had no need of the Kraahkan because nobody questioned his leadership of the Brotherhood in the far future and added that Sasuken would appreciate having a memento of his father.[15] Ynot accepted the mask[21] and later gave it to Sasuken.[22]

In 253,074 CMT, Icarax recalled his relationship with Teridax in conversation with F-Klak. Icarax stated that Teridax knew of his ambition and potential treachery but still kept him around - at least until he was exiled to another dimension by Malygos.[14] Later in 253,074 CMT, Malygos entered Ynot's mind and stumbled upon a memory of Ynot working on Destral. When Teridax approached Ynot and asked if he had seen Krika, Ynot replied that Krika was in the training hall with Chirox and Mutran. As Teridax sighed and left, the memory ended.[23]

Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]

  • Moral Insight: Teridax's Kanohi Kraahkan, the Mask of Shadows, enabled him to see the moral darkness of others.[4]
  • Absorption: As a Makuta, Teridax could presumably absorb the mass of other biomechanical beings into his own body to increase his size and strength.[4]
  • Elemental Shadow Powers: As a Makuta, Teridax wielded the elemental power of Shadow. This enabled him to fire destructive blasts of shadow energy as a means of attack, as well as create shadow constructs such as Shadow Hands and cloak areas in darkness.[4]
  • Telepathy: As a Makuta, Teridax possessed telepathic abilities that enabled him to read, detect, communicate, and interact with non-shielded minds at a surface level.[4]
  • Kraata Creation: As a Makuta, Teridax could presumably create Kraata slugs of varying types, which could then be turned into Rahkshi through the use of Energized Protodermis.[4]
  • Kraata Powers: As a Makuta, Teridax presumably had access to the full range of Kraata powers, which would grant him the abilities of increased accuracy, instant environmental adaptation, anger induction, chain lightning, camouflage, confusion induction, cyclone creation, darkness creation, density control, matter disintegration, attack dodging, elasticity, electrical field creation, fear induction, increased resistance to fire and ice, gravity manipulation, eyebeam generation, energy draining, illusion casting, insect control, temporary invulnerability, magnetism manipulation, mind reading, molecular disruption, plantlife control, plasma generation, poison generation, power scream generation, rapid healing, Rahi control, shapeshifting, object shattering, sound dampening, sleep induction, slowness induction, sonic wave generation, stasis field generation, teleportation, vacuum creation, and weather control.[4]
