Miserix was the original Grand Master of the Brotherhood of Makuta, preceding Teridax, and later, Blackout.

History[edit | edit source]

Miserix was created by the Great Beings in the early years of the Matoran Universe to govern the Makuta species.

In 625 CMT, Miserix became the de facto leader of the various factions of the Matoran Universe who came together to repel the Vrai invasion, but despite his best efforts, the Vrai continued to conquer new islands. Miserix contacted Angonce via holotransmitters on Destral and told him that, if the Vrai campaign continued, the invaders would soon seize control of Destral and Metru Nui. In response, Angonce revealed to Miserix that the Great Beings were preparing a final solution to deal with the Vrai threat once and for all.[1]

That "final solution" soon arrived on Destral in the form of the five Elite Makuta: Blackout, Barricade, Bonecrusher, Brawl, and Starscream. However, these five Makuta were denied access by one of the island's guards, so Bonecrusher and Starscream attacked the poor Matoran. The resulting commotion alerted Miserix, who arrived on the scene just in time to witness the Makuta "bullying" the Matoran guard. Upon seeing Miserix, Blackout introduced himself and his companions, and claimed that they had come to Destral to help Miserix fight the Vrai. Miserix scoffed at this suggestion, because he thought of bullying as a sign of weakness, and there was no other word to describe what the Makuta were doing to the guard. Blackout, insulted by Miserix's accusations, challenged him to a duel: if Blackout won, Miserix would have to apologize and send the Elite Makuta to the front line of the Vrai War; and if Miserix won, he could return the Elite Makuta to the Great Beings. Miserix accepted the challenge, so Blackout stunned him with lightning, blasted him with eclipse energy, and trapped him by causing an overhead rock to fall on him. Miserix accepted defeat and apologized to the Elite Makuta. He then took them inside Destral and offered to discuss their first assignment.[2]

The first assignment that Miserix gave the Elite Makuta was to destroy a Vrai airfield in the Protodermis Sea that the Vrai were planning on using to launch an aerial bombardment on Metru Nui. For this mission, the Elite Makuta were paired with three others: Caiaphus, Jerok, and Vamprah. However, there was a complication: a Vrai cruiser guarding the airfield. Blackout asked Miserix how they were supposed to get to the airfield if it was guarded by a cruiser, but Miserix simply stated that he was sure that Blackout would use his unique talents to find a way to complete the mission, then left the room.[3]

Blackout used Reflector to make a video recording of Caiaphus being knocked off a cliff by a Vrai grunt. Blackout later delivered this recording to Miserix as proof of Caiaphus's incompetence, and followed up by adding that Caiaphus performed miserably elsewhere on the mission.[citation needed] After the war, Blackout also took his concerns to the Makuta Generals, who unanimously decided that Caiaphus was no longer fit to be a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta and exiled him.[4]

Miserix was eventually replaced by Teridax as the leader of the Brotherhood of Makuta, but the circumstances of his dethroning are unclear. His current status is unknown.
