Nosgoth was a sub-dimension of the Original Universe that was home to Kain and his legion of vampires, plus the time-travelling wraith Raziel and Moebius the Time Streamer. Nosgoth existed on a separate timeline to the rest of the universe, meaning that time progressed at a different rate on Nosgoth and that alterations to the timeline of the main universe would not affect this realm, even though Raziel often undertook actions to shape both timelines.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

The Machinations of Fate[edit | edit source]

Nosgoth was the dominion of Kain, a powerful vampire who sought to advance his race by entering a state of evolutionary hibernation with six of his lieutenants. Over the centuries that followed, Kain continuously pupated through his hibernation and emerged with new evolutionary features each time, with his lieutenants receiving similar gifts some years after their master. One day, however, Raziel surpassed Kain in his evolution by growing a set of bat-like wings before such features could ever appear on Kain. In what seemed to be no more than an act of jealous rage at the time, Kain tore the wings from his former disciple's back and ordered his remaining lieutenants to execute Raziel for his transgression. Kain's orders were followed without question and Raziel was cast into the Abyss, a realm of unending agony, where he remained until he was resurrected as a wraith some centuries later. Raziel returned to Nosgoth intending to exact revenge upon Kain, but discovered that his own execution had been a necessary event that would enable both Kain and himself to reclaim their true destinies. Though Raziel continued to despise Kain for his horrific actions and mistreatment of Nosgoth, he was forced to accept that the destinies of Kain and himself were inescapably interlinked and therefore Kain could not be vanquished as he had hoped.[2]

At some point, a human resident of Nosgoth named Moebius the Time Streamer recruited Raziel to his cause by enthralling him with a vision of a supposed better tomorrow, only for his plan to result in failure.[3]

In 150,080 CMT, Raziel travelled to the Ka'amel Dome on the planet Ja'ekel because the Soul Reaver had sensed Wekiga consuming Sa'dhem's soul nearby.[4] Though Zev Raregroove was tetchy and dismissive towards Raziel,[5] Raziel ignored the Juraian and approached Namah, recognizing her from a previous encounter when Namah had visited Nosgoth several years prior.[6] However, rather than acknowledge their prior meeting, Namah begged Raziel not to get involved in their affairs.[7] Respecting Namah's wishes, Raziel left the scene via a portal.[8]

The Mazkertis Paradox[edit | edit source]

In 150,084 CMT (Day 76 of The Mazkertis Paradox arc), Kain travelled to Kalta Thaea to urge his former lieutenant Raziel to return to Nosgoth because his absence had engendered "dire consequences" for their homeworld. In response, Raziel informed Kain that he had met someone as despicable as Kain was (F-Klak), and though F-Klak would not rise to power for many more millennia, Raziel's alliance with the time-manipulating wizard Mazkertis would change both the past and future of the Original Universe, erasing the threat of F-Klak as well as mistakes committed by both Kain and himself in the main universe. When Raziel offered to have Mazkertis turn his attention to Nosgoth next, Kain noted the irony that, despite Raziel's longing for greatness and free will, he always seemed to fall under the spell of charlatans, such as Moebius, Caiaphus, and Mazkertis, whose plans for a better future always ended in failure or otherwise in a "rotted world" that stood against the interests of their vampiric race. However, Kain remarked that he knew that Raziel would make the "right choice". Kain then turned to look at the night sky above Kalta Thaea, noticing an incredible array of constellations different to those visible on Nosgoth. He made a mental note to eventually consider exploring the possibility of expanding his vampiric empire beyond Nosgoth and into the stars, then teleported away.[3]

  1. User:Klak: "I think, when I introduced Raziel, I thought of it as a planet. But lately I've been thinking of it as a sub-dimension with it's own sort of timeline, if that makes sense. Time passes differently in Nosgoth compared to the rest of the universe, in some ways, but Raziel is sort of affecting both timelines (hint hint). I kind of see it like how they portray other realms from the Thor series in the MCU. Still within the universe, but practically pocket dimensions."
