Herd Stir was a member of the Knights of the Keruvim who fought in the battles of Neo Z'traa and Corrantia in the Uterio War.

History[edit | edit source]

In 150,081 CMT, Herd Stir was one of the Knights of the Keruvim who fought in the Battle of Neo Z'traa. Herd Stir informed Protoman that a nearby Vrai village was under attack[1] and proceeded to lead a charge into Arceus's forces, but was soon impaled by an enemy soldier. Herd Stir took a moment to reflect on the irony of the situation given that his name was an anagram of "red shirt", but summoned enough strength to throw the enemy soldier into the surrounding forest and blast him with lightning.[2] Despite his injury, Herd Stir announced that he was fine[3] and continued to fight, even hurling a corpse at the Great Being reinforcements.[4] When the enemy forces began to retreat, Herd Stir remarked that he was surprised to have survived the battle and passed out for a moment,[5] but awoke in time to take a squad of Knights to secure the Rebel Alliance's main objective, a nearby Vrai protodermis mine.[6] After another momentary slip into unconsciousness, Herd Stir awoke to find that the Vrai forces had also retreated and that the protodermis mine had been secured. He celebrated the victory with the other Knights.[7]

Herd Stir returned to fight in the Battle of Corrantia, where the Rebel Alliance's objective was to conquer a Great Being fortress. The mission seemed straightforward at first, but was complicated by the revelation that the structure of the fortress itself was a living being, which became evident after Perseus led Herd Stir and the other Knights through a hole (in actuality, an open wound) in the fortress's wall. Because Herd Stir was the last Knight to try to pass through the hole, he became stuck in the wall when the hole started to heal itself shut around him, like the wound of a living creature would heal over time. Herd Stir bravely told his allies to go on without him[8] and was crushed inside the wall, dying in the process. However, Herd Stir's death was not in vain, as the presence of his corpse in the wall prevented the hole from healing fully. Once the Knights extracted Herd Stir's corpse from the wall, Perseus was able to break a larger hole in it that allowed the Knights to escape from the fortress. The Knights of the Keruvim brought Herd Stir's corpse with them in order to properly honor him later like several other Knights who had died in the battle.[9]

Herd Stir's cousin, a Happy Person Wearing a Red Shirt, later heard of his cousin's death and hoped that he would not meet a similar fate, because they were both associated with red shirts.[10]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Herd Stir's name is an anagram of "redshirt", a term for a stock character in fiction who dies soon after being introduced.
