Iklimix was the sadistic head of the Kestora research team that created Kakamu.

Description[edit | edit source]

From what little information has been revealed about Iklimix, he was a sadistic Kestora scientist who was responsible for inducing a deep traumatic aversion to his species in Kakamu via the installation of repressed memories (although D-Klak did not trigger Kakamu's aversion to Kestora because his appearance and behavior were very different to the Kestora in these repressed memories). Over the millennia, Iklimix continued to manipulate Kakamu's life from behind the scenes for reasons unknown.[1]

It is not even certain what Iklimix looks like, as he has only ever been glimpsed by Kakamu on two known occasions: once when Kakamu was first activated, and a second time towards the end of Kakamu's life when Kakamu's sanity had already been significantly eroded by the influence of the Spectral Daran, making his senses unreliable at best. On the first occasion, Kakamu perceived Iklimix and his team of Kestora scientists as monstrous biomechanical creatures with wrinkled purple flesh, luminescent green eyes with multiple black pupils in each, and silver metal teeth shaped like jagged daggers.[2] On the second occasion, in which Kakamu saw Iklimix's mental representation of himself through a telepathic connection, Iklimix appeared as an ill-defined but small purple humanoid who wore a navy blue suit and carried a briefcase.[3]

History[edit | edit source]

His Greatest Creation[edit | edit source]

In 20,576 CMT, Iklimix led the Kestora research team that was working on creating a unique Ta-Matoran specimen named Kakamu aboard the Red Star. During the operation, Iklimix deliberately activated Kakamu prematurely, allowing the newborn Ta-Matoran to perceive the nightmarish surgical environment he was in without any context that would be needed to rationalize his thoughts. Iklimix had just finished attaching a plate of armor to Kakamu's right arm when his coworkers questioned whether he had uploaded all the correct information to Kakamu's instinct core, because Kakamu's vital signs were showing an accelerated heartrate and an unusually bright heartstone as if he was already conscious. Iklimix replied that the increase in vitals was a response to being activated, maliciously adding that the trauma of the experience might cause lasting damage to Kakamu's personality core. As Iklimix's coworkers scrambled to deactivate Kakamu before more damage could be done to their creation, Kakamu's instinct core activated and he broke free of his bonds in an attempt to stop the Kestora from returning him to a state of 'death' (unconsciousness). Despite Kakamu's best efforts, Iklimix and the other Kestora knocked him unconscious and suppressed his memory of the incident before teleporting him to an education center in Ga-Metru along with several other newly created Matoran.[2]

Near-Encounter in the Present[edit | edit source]

In 150,084 CMT, Iklimix was one of several Kestora scientists who were conducting genetic experiments on the local fauna in a high-tech laboratory on Lotcas. When a rogue Makuta named Klak was found to have discovered the lab, Iklimix ordered the immediate evacuation of all science personnel to the Torch (the Red Star) and the destruction of all living experiments to ensure that the Makuta would not discover what the Kestora were doing. However, due to concerns about the abruptness of Iklimix's decision to evacuate, another Kestora scientist named Xasox recorded the day's events, as well as coordinates and access codes to the Torch, in his personal journal in case any scientists were left behind in the turmoil. Xasox's journal was found in the abandoned lab by Kakamu, who decided to follow the mystery back to the Torch.[4]

Assuming Control in the Far Future[edit | edit source]

In 253,074 CMT, Iklimix, who had been monitoring Kakamu's activities through a telepathic link, assumed direct control of Kakamu's surface consciousness when he noticed that Kakamu had somehow escaped from his 'retirement home' and had ended up onboard the Sabre instead. While Kakamu continued to spout gibberish throughout the possession, Iklimix used Kakamu's elemental powers to blast a hole in the Sabre and made Kakamu fly out into space to assess his surroundings. Through Kakamu's eyes, Iklimix noticed that Blackout and Ynot were having a nearby battle in space, so he forced Kakamu to intervene by using Kakamu's own telekinesis to pull both Makuta towards him.[5] Ynot accelerated into the pull and slammed Iklimix/Kakamu[6] into Blackout, who then used his magnetic powers to throw a torrent of iron spears that Ynot had created at Iklimix/Kakamu.[7] After Iklimix/Kakamu shapeshifted in order to avoid the spears, the possessed Makuta retrieved two of the spears and prepared to brandish them against Blackout and Ynot.[8] Ynot drifted over to Iklimix/Kakamu and proposed an alliance against Blackout,[9] but before Iklimix could respond, Kakamu began to regain control of his body, declaring that he would interfere in their battle no longer because "One will win this conflict. One will take the slower path to victory." Kakamu then began to float back towards the Sabre.[10]

Iklimix increased the strength of his telepathic connection with Kakamu in an attempt to regain control over Kakamu's body, which caused Kakamu significant pain, but also enabled Kakamu to get a glimpse into Iklimix's mind for the first time. Though Iklimix immediately severed the telepathic connection when he realized that it had been opened both ways,[11] Kakamu overheard one last message that Iklimix had issued to his unseen assistants: "We need to increase the power. Find the others. All he ever knew."[3]
