Oblique Twilight Radiance[1]

Oblique Twilight Radiance is a Lithan passenger aboard the Coldest Story Ever Told.

Description[edit | edit source]

Even for a Lithan, Oblique Twilight Radiance possesses a beautifully ethereal appearance, including a thin, perfectly angular face with almost androgynous features, and long, multi-layered white hair that extends down the sides of his face to reach his chin. Atop his head is a silver tiara with a diamond-shaped hole in the middle that fits perfectly around the sky-blue Lithan gemstone embedded in his forehead. He wears loose white robes with gold embellishments which seem to billow around him in an intangible wind. Oblique is imposingly tall, measuring over seven feet in height, but has a serene, spiritual aura. He carries Halo with him everywhere he goes.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Early Adventures[edit | edit source]

Before Arbottei sealed itself off from the rest of the universe, Oblique Twilight Radiance travelled to the planet and saved a Soul Tree from being taken by alien poachers. In return, the Soul Tree created Halo, a living lyre that contained its soul, in order to join Oblique in his adventures.[1]

At some point, Oblique teamed up with a Sha'lythe named Quolas and another Lithan named Melody Over Tempest to battle an unidentified sorcerer on an unknown planet. The sorcerer, who wielded dark magics and the ability to reverse time, seemingly came into conflict with Quolas when the sorcerer set out to 'correct' the mistakes that the Sha'lythe had committed by removing the Sha'lythe from the timeline. During the battle, after Melody was maimed by a blast of dark energy to the face, Oblique unleashed Halo's full power by transforming him into a sword and running him through the chest of the wizard, seemingly fatally wounding him. However, the wizard's magic reversed his injuries and he escaped through a portal before Oblique or Quolas could stop him. Realizing that they could not defeat the sorcerer without first nullifying his abilities, Quolas informed Oblique of the existence of legendary weapons created by the masters of the Sha'lythe that could undo aberrations in time. Oblique resolved to find one of these weapons and the heroes went their separate ways.[2]

The Coldest Story Ever Told[edit | edit source]

In 7 AR, Oblique and Halo tracked one of the Sha'lythe's legendary weapons to a container in Cargo Storage 3 of the Coldest Story Ever Told. Oblique gained residency aboard the ship by claiming that he was a refugee of war and devised a plan to wait two weeks before retrieving the sword in order to earn the trust of the crew first. However, when the day finally came for Oblique to collect the sword, he found that a smuggler named Guillaume had been murdered and the place turned into a crime scene.[2] When Halo revealed their presence to the security officer Prush by loudly exclaiming that the sight in front of them was "messed up", Oblique informed Prush that he could sense the presence of the murderer nearby due to the sin that had been marked on the murderer's soul. Oblique then properly introduced Halo and himself to Prush, offering to help him apprehend the murderer both in return for the hospitality that the Coldest Story had shown them and because Oblique could not abide such a wicked act occurring in his presence.[1] When Prush demanded that Oblique and Halo submit to a telepathic scan,[3] Oblique agreed on the condition that Prush underwent one too,[4] which angered Prush enough to send Oblique, Halo, and another strange character who had entered the scene named Xavik into the brig.[5]

After a short meditation, Oblique awoke and warned the security officer Sally that he sensed that the murderer was about to kill again, urging her to act quickly. With his consent,[6] Sally entered Oblique's mind to perform a telepathic scan of his memories to determine that he was not the murderer of Guillaume.[7] Oblique guided Sally through his memories, showing her his battle against the dark sorcerer alongside Melody and Quolas and his search for a weapon that could defeat the wizard, which had brought him to the Coldest Story Ever Told. At the end of the tour, Sally saw that he was innocent of Guillaume's murder.[2]
