The Lithans are an ethereal race of psychic humanoids who inhabit the Fall of Cluster Empire.

Description[edit | edit source]

Lithans are ethereally beautiful humanoids, possessing clear, naturally unblemished skin and perfectly angular faces. Lithans possess a 'crest'; a gem set into the forehead that channels psychic energy and is coloured according to the Lithan's eye colour. While all Lithans possess psychic abilities to some degree, at least one Lithan known as Oblique Twilight Radiance also possessed spiritual powers, such as the ability to sense the aura of nearby beings.[1]

A popular belief among humans is that Lithans are distantly descended from humanity, though it is unlikely that this is the case.[2]

History[edit | edit source]

In roughly 15,000 BR, the Lithans began to build the Fall of Cluster Empire. By roughly 10,000 BR, the Fall of Cluster Empire, also known as the Lithan Star Empire, was the pinnacle of civilization in the Milky Way Galaxy. There was no war, no hardship, or hunger for its inhabitants; a society with no suffering whatsoever. The Lithans led lives filled with art and with science and with music, and though they had to make great personal sacrifices to achieve this utopian existence, they made them gladly.[3] However, there were events that disrupted the empire's prosperity. One Lithan world, Bendu, was cut off from the rest of the empire by a vast interstellar storm, causing its society to descend into anarchy. Bendu was only reunified through the efforts of the warlord Certus Quartz Arc Blair, who led a crusade across the planet and became a revered leader among his fellow Lithans. Upon the planet's reintegration into the empire, Arc Blair was appointed the leader of the Starknights by the dragon-emperor Aldeon.

However, while Arc Blair rose through the ranks of Lithan society, he became seduced by the hedonistic ideology of Kanos Jai. Contrary to the Lithan way of life, Kanos Jai proposed that personal enrichment and advancement were the only valid reasons for living. The Fall of Cluster Empire had been static for so long - so devoid of any narrative of progress or change - that it lacked any form of inoculation against this ideology. There were never any arguments made for the Lithan way of life because it was unthinkable to ever propose an argument against it. Ten years after the death of Kanos Jai at the hands of Aldeon, Arc Blair and his lieutenants in the Kanos Jai Brotherhood marched on the capital and slew Aldeon, sparking a civil war that would last two decades and result in the deaths of trillions.

By the end of the Lithan Civil War, which concluded with Fortune launching Blair out of the galaxy, most of the Lithan population was dead. The survivors, including the remaining inhabitants of Bendu, participated in a mass exodus to the Gaia Star Cluster.

By 7 AR, the Lithan race still existed within the Gaia Star Cluster, but held significantly less power and influence on the galactic stage. Few Lithans even left the Gaia Star Cluster at all, although two notable exceptions were Oblique Twilight Radiance and Melody Over Tempest.[3]
