Harusame was a powerful sentient sword that was originally owned by Mikihisa Raregroove.

History[edit | edit source]

Mikihisa Raregroove wielded Harusame while he and Azusa Glory were engaged in a campaign to protect their land from an unknown threat. In case he did not survive the war, Mikihisa wrote a letter detailing that, if he did not return from battle, it was his last wishes for his niece Tamao Glory to protect Harusame until Zev Raregroove could undergo full ascetic training. Though Mikihisa did indeed survive the war, he was at one point believed to have been killed in action, so Harusame was recovered and sent to Tamao with his letter. The moment that Harusame and Tamao met, Harusame chose Tamao as its wielder, but its power overwhelmed her and took possession of all of her senses because she was not powerful enough to control it. Tamao went on a madness-induced rampage with Harusame in hand and disappeared for two years. Little is known about this period save for the fact that, even though Tamao supposedly had lost control of all her senses, she somehow remembered to take up a ceremonial cloth and wipe down Harusame's blade five times a day.[1][2]

Harusame and Tamao were eventually tracked down by Tamao's grandparents on her mother's side, Yohmei Glory and Kino Raregroove, who somehow managed to disrupt Harusame's hold on her long enough for her to surrender the sword. However, it still took Tamao years of training as an ascetic monk and as an itako to fully recover from Harusame and regain control of all of her senses.[1][2]

The current status and whereabouts of Harusame are unknown, as Mikihisa has not been seen with the sword since his supposed death on the battlefield.

At this, Tamao went berserk - Running amok with Harusame in hand, when it shouldn't rightly have accepted her as its wielder. Many questions remain unanswered regarding this time period of two years - For instance, while Tamao was thought to have had a full leave of her senses, and was truly off the deep end, she somehow remembered to wipe down Harusame's blade with a sacred cloth five times every day. However, eventually, Tamao was talked down by her grandparents and another uncle. It took years of training as an ascetic monk and as an itako to fully return self-control to her."
