The Gate of the Chisel Key was the Celestial Spirit Gate Key that could be used to summon Caelum from the Celestial Spirit World.

Description[edit | edit source]

The Gate of the Chisel Key was the Celestial Spirit Gate Key that could be used to summon Caelum, the Chisel, from the Celestial Spirit World. It was one of the Silver Celestial Spirit Gate Keys, which each represented one of the constellations seen from Earth that were not one of the Zodiac constellations (which were instead represented by the Golden Celestial Spirit Gate Keys), with the Gate of the Chisel Key representing Caelum, the Chisel. It appeared as a silver key that was adorned with the symbol of the Chisel on its bow. As with all Celestial Spirit Keys, it would not function or respond to any commands or use of magic unless its corresponding Celestial Spirit, in this case Caelum, was first bound by contract to the mage who possessed the key. If a contract was established between Caelum and a mage, the mage could then summon Caelum by brandishing the key and shouting "Open, Gate to the Chisel!", which opened the dimensional "gate" that existed between the mage and Caelum, allowing him to pass through to the mage's universe.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In 150,081 CMT, Zev Raregroove told Kokonoe that the Silver Celestial Spirit Gate Keys he owned were the keys that represented Canis Minor, Leo Minor, Crux, Horologium, Caelum, Triangulum, Telescopium, and Lyra, and that his Golden Keys were Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Taurus, and Gemini, with "Caelum" referring to the Gate of the Chisel Key. When Kokonoe asked him if he would be willing to demonstrate some of their abilities,[2] Zev picked out the Gate of the Chisel Key and used it to summon Caelum to the Bebop II. Zev instructed Caelum to "Put on a nice show for Kokonoe", so Caelum fired a blast of energy at a training robot that blasted open its abdomen. Zev then used the Gate of the Chisel Key to return Caelum to the Celestial Spirit World.[3]

  1. Aries (spirit) (revision on 19:36, May 12, 2012): "As a Celestial Spirit, Aries can be called from her native plane of existence to any other parallel Universe by way of a key - However, she must first have been previously bound by contract to the mage who holds her key. Without the contract, the key will not respond to any kind of commands or use of magic. It seems that there is a distinct difference in the level of power between spirits of Golden Keys and those of Silver Keys; the Golden Keys representing the Zodiac, and the Silver Keys representing all other constellations known to Earth. It is unknown what means go into forging such keys, nor which Universe's Earth produced them, as all keys seen thus far have been based on the constellations as seen from said planet."
