Brag Men was a rare book that served as a melodramatic account of the travels of its author, Montblanc Noland. It was categorized as fiction because its accuracy was heavily disputed, but there were some who believed the book's events to be factual. For this reason, copies of the book were highly sought after by those who wished to study its contents in order to learn more about the fantastical lands described within.

Description[edit | edit source]

The copy of Brag Men owned by Namah was encased in a jade-green jacket that bore golden wave designs on the top and bottom edges of the spine. In the center of the front cover was a golden design of a chestnut with two folded wings and the book's title displayed above it in bold, capital letters. It was described as being a "very thick volume".[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Brag Men was originally written as an expedition log by Montblanc Noland, a veteran explorer who spent much of his life charting the universe outside his homeland. Tales of Noland's travels eventually caught the attention of the ruler of his kingdom, who insisted that Noland take him to some of the fantastical locations that Noland visited on his adventures. Noland complied, but for whatever reason, the expeditioners were unable to find anything that supported what Noland had written. Because of this, the ruler declared Noland a liar and had him hanged. Noland's writings were recovered, compiled and spread, but were branded fiction. As a final insult to Noland, the compilation book was given the disparaging title of "Brag Men".[2]

Brag Men became a legend, mostly due to the story behind it, and was greatly sought after by those who wanted to read Noland's outlandish claims for themselves. One of these people was Namah, who had searched for a copy for a long time before eventually finding one in Nefelpitou's library aboard the Paw Castle in 150,081 CMT. She asked Pitou if she could have it, and to her surprise, he stated that he was going to give it to her anyway because of its importance to her. She thanked him and began reading it immediately.[1]

Later, Namah left her copy of Brag Men in the room shared by Shroom, Moss and Draak'ha aboard the Bebop II.[3] When Namah returned to pick it up and started reading it some more, she tried to make conversation with Shroom and his allies by asking them if they had heard of it.[4] They had not,[5] so Namah told them a bit about the book and how she came to own it.[6] After Shroom and company were distracted by something else, Namah went back to reading.[7]
