The Helix Nebula is a planetary nebula in close proximity to Teruga Prime that is revered by the native Terugans as a remnant of their deity, Cillia.

Description[edit | edit source]

The Helix Nebula is a planetary nebula of ionized gases and cosmic energies that is located in the Milky Way Galaxy close to Teruga Prime. It is so close to Teruga Prime, in fact, that it occupies a significant portion of the sky, appearing to 'gaze down' at the planet like the watchful eye of a cosmic being. Through an unknown, seemingly unscientific process, the Helix Nebula somehow seems to emit light, warmth, and an unidentified kind of cosmic radiation directed specifically to the area of space that contains Teruga Prime, which enables life on the planet to flourish. Although this process has been studied by a variety of scientists across the galaxy, including Teruga's Prime own and those of the Tanari Confederation, a scientific consensus on the cause of the phenomenon has yet to be reached.[1]

According to Monoculism, the national religion of Teruga Prime, the Helix Nebula is actually the eye of Cillia, a lonely, ancient god who had travelled the universe in search of a companion. When her search turned up empty, she gathered up rocks and dust and shaped Teruga Prime, creating the planet's oceans with a single tear and prompting the emergence of life. Wanting to continue her search, but not wanting to abandon her creations, Cillia removed one of her eyes and left it to watch over the world as well as provide it with the cosmic energies that it needed to survive while she continued her celestial travels.[1]
