The Zyglak are an sentient species of savage reptilians who once lived in the Matoran Universe.
Description[edit | edit source]
The Zyglak are a species of savage bipedal sentients who were created by the Great Beings through experimentation with organic protodermis. Zyglak are unlike almost every other species that once inhabited the Matoran Universe in the sense that their bodies are composed entirely out of organic protodermis tissue with no mechanical elements whatsoever. Because of this, Zyglak lack traits shared by other Matoran Universe species, such as energy-based powers and the ability to activate Kanohi masks. However, Zyglak tower above most of those species and possess greater strength and muscle mass than Toa on average.[1]
Zyglak appear to be somewhat reptilian in nature and are covered in natural scaled armor. Their heads are elongated and pointed towards the front, with two bulging eyes and multiple rows of razor-sharp teeth in a jaw that extends back to the neck. These necks are also elongated and connect to the Zyglak respiratory system, which enables them to breathe water in addition to air. Zyglak arms are double-jointed but their legs are triple-jointed; all their fingers and toes are clawed.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
The Zyglak were accidentally created by the Great Beings in the ancient history of the Matoran Universe while they were working on a different experiment. The Great Beings deemed the Zyglak mistakes and shunned them, so the Zyglak retreated into the darkest depths of the Matoran Universe and began to foster an intense hatred of the Great Beings and their creations. Though most Zyglak chose to remain hidden and brood over their fate,[2] some, such as Jarr, took a more pragmatic approach to their situation and lived their lives on the surface world.[3]
Somehow, an unknown number of Zyglak became part of the Undead Scourge. In the Battle for the Frozen Throne, these Zyglak charged into battle against the forces of the Legion Makuta and ran into Kami and Kaze, but both Toa were whisked away by Hokagetsu and Kurenitsu before the Zyglak could kill them. Blackout then jumped onto a dragon and shot at the Zyglak while Sasuken killed several himself. The Zyglak forces were worn down even more when Blackout released an inferno blast that incinerated several Zyglak.[4]
In 100,080 CMT,[5] the Zyglak who still lived in the Matoran Universe were forced to relocate before it became uninhabitable due to Mata Nui's death and the construction of Darkmount.[6] Some of these Zyglak ended up on the Red Star through unknown circumstances.[7]
In 150,084 CMT, Kakamu and Micros arrived on the Red Star and watched security footage of a group of Zyglak ambushing and destroying a Baterra patrol in another part of the station.[7] Kakamu guessed that the Zyglak must have moved to the Red Star following the death of the Matoran Universe because they would not have been allowed to move onto the Mata Nui II.[8]
