This article is about the Makuta member of the Apprentices of Caiaphus. For other uses of "Tidal Wave", see Tidal Wave (disambiguation).

Tidal Wave was a Makuta member of the Apprentices of Caiaphus who was killed by Klak. He was resurrected in the Tournament of the Dead, but was killed again by Raziel.

History[edit | edit source]

Life & Death[edit | edit source]

When Caiaphus transformed his temple into a titanic robot body for himself, Tidal Wave was one of the Apprentices of Caiaphus who battled Klak inside Caiaphus's new form. Tidal Wave was then killed by Klak.[2]

Tournament of the Dead[edit | edit source]

In 150,080 CMT, Tidal Wave was one of the many deceased characters who were resurrected by the Composer in the Underground to participate in the Tournament of the Dead,[3] appearing alongside many other former Apprentices of Caiaphus who had previously died, such as Akzer, Beastman, Rahn, Tulio, and the unidentified gelatinous apprentice. When hordes of Carcin Noise began to close in on the crowd of the deceased, Tidal Wave agreed with Rahn's assessment that the Apprentices would need to put aside their mortal grievances with one another and work together to survive. Tidal Wave then walked up to the Happy Person and The Guy Who Was Engulfed In Milk when Akzer asked them for an explanation.[4] When the Composer informed the crowd of the deceased that they would need to form Pacts by sorting themselves into pairs in order to participate in the tournament because those who did not would be returned to death, Tidal Wave quickly found a partner, and thus received a Pin that contained his life force and physical strength.[5]

The Apprentices then worked together to defeat one of the Carcin Noises: Akzer and Rahn held the crab's arms while Tidal Wave and two other Apprentices began to beat it.[6] Once the Apprentices had injured the crab enough to escape, Akzer and Rahn realized that, if the contestants could steal others' Pins to gain their life force and strength, then one could eventually accumulate enough to return to the mortal world, similar to a Situation 456 that Caiaphus once mentioned. Despite Beastman's warnings, Akzer attacked Tidal Wave in an attempt to steal his Pin, which started a brawl between the Apprentices.[7] After claiming several badges for himself, Tidal Wave escaped from the brawl along with Akzer, Rahn, and Tulio. When Tulio proposed an alliance that would last until they were the last ones left, Tidal Wave agreed.[8]

Akzer then made a proposition to the Composer where he asked for himself and his allies to be returned to life so that they could hunt down and slay the people who had killed them in the real world, which would be a mutually beneficial outcome for both parties because the Apprentices of Caiaphus would get revenge against their killers, while the Composer would get revenge against those who ignored his invitation to the UG, as well as more players added to the Tournament of the Dead in the form of the Apprentices' victims. Tulio interjected to add that, if the Composer accepted their offer but the Apprentices failed, they could either return to the UG or lose their Pins, whichever the Composer preferred.[9] However, Sho Minamimoto rejected Akzer's proposal on the Composer's behalf,[10] so Tidal Wave commented "So much for plan".[11]

The Apprentices were then approached by Raziel, who had been lured to the Underground by the large amount of souls gathered there. Raziel then stabbed Tidal Wave with the Soul Reaver to satiate his hunger, which killed him and left nothing but his Pin behind.[12]

Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]

  • Absorption: As a Makuta, Tidal Wave could presumably absorb the mass of other biomechanical beings into his own body to increase his size and strength.[13]
  • Elemental Shadow Powers: As a Makuta, Tidal Wave wielded the elemental power of Shadow. This enabled him to fire destructive blasts of shadow energy as a means of attack, as well as create shadow constructs such as Shadow Hands and cloak areas in darkness.[13]
  • Telepathy: As a Makuta, Tidal Wave possessed telepathic abilities that enabled him to read, detect, communicate, and interact with non-shielded minds at a surface level.[13]
  • Kraata Creation: As a Makuta, Tidal Wave could presumably create Kraata slugs of varying types, which could then be turned into Rahkshi through the use of Energized Protodermis.[13]
  • Kraata Powers: As a Makuta, Tidal Wave presumably had access to the full range of Kraata powers, which would grant him the abilities of increased accuracy, instant environmental adaptation, anger induction, chain lightning, camouflage, confusion induction, cyclone creation, darkness creation, density control, matter disintegration, attack dodging, elasticity, electrical field creation, fear induction, increased resistance to fire and ice, gravity manipulation, eyebeam generation, energy draining, illusion casting, insect control, temporary invulnerability, magnetism manipulation, mind reading, molecular disruption, plantlife control, plasma generation, poison generation, power scream generation, rapid healing, Rahi control, shapeshifting, object shattering, sound dampening, sleep induction, slowness induction, sonic wave generation, stasis field generation, teleportation, vacuum creation, and weather control.[13]

He fought the Apprentices inside of Caiaphus, killing several (including Tidal Wave), and Rahn. Later on, he was taken to Caiaphus's mind."
