Takanuva is a Toa of Light allied with the Toa Nuva who ended up journeying through multiple universes on his quest to save his own Matoran Universe and stop Blackout.
History[edit | edit source]
Quest for Karda Nui[edit | edit source]
Takanuva was a Toa of Light who was allied with the Toa Nuva. When Takanuva learned that he had to go to Karda Nui to save the Toa Nuva from the Energy Storms about to devastate the realm, he had Brutaka transport him there via Brutaka's Kanohi Olmak. However, as a result of the damage that the Olmak had previously sustained, the mask instead sent Takanuva into interdimensional space.[1]
Dark Mirror[edit | edit source]
While trying to find his way back to the Original Universe, Takanuva ended up in the Dark Mirror Universe, where he discovered that Metru Nui had become a dictatorship ruled by the evil Toa Tuyet. Horrified, Takanuva joined an underground rebellion that had formed against Tuyet, participating in the Battle at the Coliseum. While fighting Tuyet in the Coliseum's halls, Takanuva convinced the dictator to use her own Kanohi Olmak to abandon her failed empire and start anew in another universe.[1] As Tuyet prepared to use her Olmak, the Blackout and Ynot of the Original Universe suddenly arrived, falling through interdimensional space as a result of being exposed to exciton radiation during the Battle for the Frozen Throne. Takanuva and Tuyet were immediately banished by Blackout to a dimension full of Toa-eating beings,[2] but Tuyet's Olmak returned them to the Coliseum. As Takanuva and Tuyet wrestled for control of the Olmak, Tuyet was sliced in half and killed by a closing portal, and Takanuva left.[3]
Returning Home[edit | edit source]
Upon returning to the Original Universe, Takanuva teamed up with the Toa Nuva and Toa Ignika to defeat the eight Makuta who were active in Karda Nui.[1] Word of the Toa's victory in Karda Nui reached Shaern, who would later tell Blade that the only reason eight Toa were able to defeat eight Makuta was because all but one of the Makuta were severely handicapped and the Toa had Order of Mata Nui-level armaments as well as both Toa of Light and Life on their side.[4]
Alerted to the threat posed by Blackout, Takanuva returned to Metru Nui shortly before Blackout released persuasion particles on the city that brainwashed its inhabitants as part of his plan to conquer Aqua Magna. Takanuva's quest to stop Blackout led him on a search for the upper half of the Mask of Time, having been alerted to its existence by Brutaka. After Brutaka used his Olmak to send Takanuva to the mask's supposed location in another universe, Takanuva found what he was looking for, but became trapped on the island of Okoto.[5]
The Kingdom[edit | edit source]
Following Quolas's failure to prevent Mazkertis from rewriting the timelines of multiple universes, leading to the collapse of time and space, Takanuva was one of many beings who were integrated into the Kingdom. His usage of the upper half of the Mask of Time enabled him to retain his memories up to his arrival on Okoto, earning him a seat at the Council of Seven. Takanuva gathered with the other council members when Genetoes brought them a version of Quolas who had impossibly arrived in the Kingdom from before the Collapse, to the Council's bewilderment. After Xelor told Quolas that the Kingdom had been founded with the help of their telepaths, which led Quolas to ask whether Sefer Yetzirah was among them, Takanuva replied that Sefer was one of the Council's first casualties, saying that "She sacrificed everything to give the citizens of their Kingdom their purpose, constructing the Archive so that we might be able to piece together the remnants of history to discover what went wrong".[5]
Alternate reality versions[edit | edit source]
- In an alternate reality dubbed "Takanuva's World", Blackout had taken over the Matoran Universe. In a last-ditch attempt to stop him, Takanuva engaged the Makuta in battle, but was impaled with the Master Sword and killed. It is unclear whether this was the Takanuva from the Original Universe or one native to Takanuva's World because Takanuva is an cross-dimensional traveler, so it could have been either.[6]
Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]
Elemental Powers[edit | edit source]
- Light Creation: Takanuva can create blasts or constructs of light by projecting elemental Light energy from his hands or his Toa Tool.
- Light Control: Takanuva can manipulate existing light to move light beams in any direction as well as create illusions and change the colors of objects.
- Light Absorption: Takanuva can absorb light into his body to store it for use in future elemental attacks.
- Light Nova Blast: In extreme circumstances, Takanuva can release all of his elemental energy in the form of a Light Nova Blast, which would be an explosion of light large enough to devastate an area the size of a large city.
Mask Powers[edit | edit source]
- Light: When activated, Takanuva's Kanohi Avohkii enables him to gain insight into the "moral light" of other beings.
- Time: When activated, Takanuva's Kanohi Vahi enables him to manipulate the flow of time within a certain area.
