Soul magnet
Soul magnets are microscopic pieces of technology that, when ingested, can transfer the soul of another into the body of whomever ingested the magnets.
Function & Design[edit | edit source]
For the transfer to work correctly, the donator of the soul must ingest an output magnet, and the receiver an input magnet. The output magnet is activated when it detects that the body it is occupying is no longer functioning properly (for human hosts, this can occur upon death, for Makuta hosts, it would be when their antidermis leaves their armor). Once activated, the output magnet transmits a signal to activate the input magnet. The input magnet then draws the soul into the body of its host. Upon contact, the retrieved soul instantly assumes direct control of the host's body, while the soul of the host becomes dormant. The host's soul will vacate if left dormant for too long, which can cause a number of problems. For this reason it is recommended that retrieved souls vacate the host's body into an unoccupied or artificial body as soon as possible (how this would be achieved is currently unknown).
Makuta have demonstrated the ability to use soul magnets too, despite not having a digestive system, by storing them inside their armor. These soul magnets recognize antidermis as a form of life, and will not activate until they can no longer detect antidermis being present.
History[edit | edit source]
It is unknown who invented the soul magnets and for what purpose, but the version of Quolas from the Dark Universe came into possession of some. When Kivalon came to him to ask for his help in escaping from his brother, Quolas devised a plan involving soul magnets. He implanted an output magnet in Kivalon's armor and travelled to the Original Universe to put an input magnet into Vultraz. When Vultraz used his power to create some unoccupied antidermis clouds from his hands, his soul magnet left his body and floated in the cloud. Concurrently, Kivalon evacuated his armor and his soul was torn from the Dark Universe to be thrust into the antidermis cloud that Vultraz had created. However, due to Vultraz creating two clouds instead of just one, Kivalon's soul was torn in two and Xikila was born.
Dukamu realized that Quolas must have used soul magnets to help Kivalon escape, so he went to the Knowledge Dimension to try to find a way to locate his brother's soul magnet.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Soul magnets are a concept taken from the TV series Fringe. In Fringe, they were created by William Bell, founder of technology firm Massive Dynamic and the author of ZFT.
