Memory Seals were card-shaped artifacts that could be used to recreate things from memories or transport people to locations from memories.
Description[edit | edit source]
Memory Seals were card-shaped artifacts that could be used to recreate both living and non-living things from memories that were imprinted on them. Whenever a user imprinted a memory on a Memory Seal, the user would lose their personal recollection of that memory if they also lost the Memory Seal it was imprinted on, but would retain the memory if they kept the card on or near their person. It was implied that imprinting was a one-way process that could not be reversed. In their default state, Memory Seals resembled cards with a blank white surface that changed when imprinted with a memory to display an image that best depicted the memory.[1] If an imprinted Memory Seal turned completely black, then the memory that was imprinted on it did not belong to the user, but rather an inner demon of the user, as was the case with a seal imprinted by Ynot that contained one of Hollow Ynot's memories.[2] If a memory that was primarily about a specific time and place was imprinted on a Memory Seal, then that Memory Seal would transport its owner back to that specific time and place when activated, even if that place was located in the future.[3]
Gazelle claimed that memories of enemies imprinted in Memory Seals would recreate those enemies as allies if the imprinted seal was activated by the user, but this was never seen in practice.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
In 100,080 CMT (Day 2 of 50,000 Years Afloat), Gazelle decided to introduce Ynot to the Memory Seals on Aeon when he heard that Ynot had been searching for new ways to oppose Blackout. At Gazelle's behest, Berfomet brought Ynot a stack of blank Memory Seals, which Gazelle explained were magical cards that he could imprint with memories of his past enemies in order to bring them back to life to fight alongside him as allies. However, Gazelle warned that memories imparted onto the seals could only be remembered by the user as long as the seals were within reach.[1] After spending the rest of the day training in the use of Memory Seals, Ynot set to work on honing his memories and recalling his fiercest battles, mightiest enemies, and oddest allies to immortalize in the cards. After creating over 9000 Memory Seals, one for each Rahi that he had created while he was a member of the Brotherhood of Makuta, Ynot realized that one of his other cards had turned completely black. When he asked Gazelle what this could mean, Gazelle explained that a black Memory Seal signified the memory of an inner demon. Although Gazelle advised Ynot to destroy the black card, Ynot wanted to confront this supposed demon because he felt that, if he could feel comfortable walking away from something inside of him, he would never be able to stand on his own.[2]
The next day, Ynot stood in an arena on Aeon and examined the black Memory Seal, which had since changed to display a picture of Ynot with inverted colors. Ynot then tossed it in front of him in order to summon the demon, who malevolently introduced itself as Ynohtna.[4]
Later, Gazelle used a Memory Seal to survey an area for a shadowed being who appeared after Ynot returned from his journey, but the shadowed being was never found. When Ynot was fighting Nefelpitou on Aeon, Gazelle joined in by using a Memory Seal to attack Pitou, but he was nevertheless handily and repeatedly defeated by the eccentric cat-boy.[5]
In 150,080 CMT, Ynot inscribed a memory of Darkmount as it existed in 150,080 CMT onto a Memory Seal. When Ynot, Hollow Ynot, Blackout, and Overlord Blackout were sent back to the Reality Bomb Crisis via a crack in time, Ynot used the aforementioned Memory Seal to escape the conflict by transporting both HY and himself back to Darkmount in 150,080 CMT.[3] However, because the four characters were temporally connected by the same crack in time, Blackout and Overlord Blackout were teleported back to Darkmount in the present too.[6]
In 150,082 CMT, Ynot imprinted several more memories on his deck of Memory Seals, including memories of Set, Ra, Malchior IV, the various Lanterns he had slain as part of his quest to claim one of each Power Ring, and K'theenya.[7]

First when Ynot returned from his journey, he used a Gazelle Memory seal to survey the area for a shadowed being, who was never found. Then, in Ynot's battle with Pitou, he used the seal again to attack him. However, Pitou defeated Gazelle handily. And repeatedly during Ynot's trip to the Planet of the Beasts."
