Kuruk was an Avatar of the Water Tribe on the planet Fanrong. After his death, a statue was erected of him which his spirit sometimes inhabits to offer wisdom to present and future Avatars.
History[edit | edit source]
Long ago, Kuruk was an Avatar belonging to Fanrong's Water Tribe. His status as an Avatar meant that he had the ability to control the elements of earth, water, wind, and fire. After his death, a statue was erected in his honor that held a special connection to his spirit, so that when any Avatar approached the statue, the spirit corresponding to the statue's likeness would be drawn back to it in order to speak with the living Avatar. Korra was one such Avatar who sometimes visited Kuruk's statue to seek his guidance.
On one of these occasions, Korra told Kuruk that she was feeling overwhelmed and alone, and doubted that she would be able to find the last teacher needed to complete her training. Kuruk comforted her by saying that she would never be alone, she must not hesitate or retreat, and that it was never do late to do what she must. Kuruk repeated what he said the last time they met: "Don't panic". Korra thanked Kuruk, and his spirit left the statue once more.[1]
