This article is about the Dreamkeeper. For other characters named "Bobby" and variations thereof, see Robert (disambiguation).
Lieutenant Bobby was a Dreamkeeper and a close friend and lover of Viriathus aboard the Bebop II.
History[edit | edit source]
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Bobby spent most of his childhood and teenage years in an orphanage that was more akin to a child-powered fishery than an actual legitimate orphanage.[1] As the eldest of the lot, Bobby became a surrogate father figure for the orphans and took it upon himself to keep them all safe.[2] There, Bobby formed a strong friendship with a fellow orphan named Viriathus which eventually progressed into a romantic relationship as the years passed.[1]
Memories of Bobby[edit | edit source]
In 150,081 CMT, the protective relationship that Shroom had with his female companions Moss and Yuuka reminded Vi of the relationship that she had with Bobby, prompting Vi to ask Moss and Yuuka how they met Shroom.[2] The stories that Moss and Yuuka recalled about Shroom[3] confirmed Vi's assumption that Shroom had a caring nature similar to that of Bobby.[4] A few minutes later, Wisp murmured "I love you, Mace" in her sleep, which momentarily confused Vi because she knew someone of the same name, until Vi remembered something that caused a knowing smile to spread across her face and her to comment to herself "I hope Bobby doesn't get to the kid before I do".[5] Because this was the second time that Vi had mentioned Bobby in the span of a few minutes, Moss asked her who Bobby was.[6] Vi replied that Bobby was the eldest orphan in the orphanage she was raised in, someone who looked out for her and the others,[7] and produced a framed picture of Bobby to show Moss.[8] Moss commented that Bobby seemed like a "nice guy",[9] which amused Vi, who slyly replied "he's nice, alright...".[10]
Before the end of the year, Bobby was hired as a lieutenant aboard the Bebop II and continued his relationship with Vi aboard the ship. When the Bebop II crew held a karaoke party, Zev Raregroove took to the stage to announce that he had received a song request from Bobby, who Zev was sure Bebop II regulars would remember from such previous works as 'Recording Vi's Moans of Passion During Specific Relations'. The revelation that a member of the crew had recorded the audio of one of Vi and Bobby's lovemaking sessions prompted Vi to jump onto a table and furiously order whoever was responsible to show themselves, threatening the room with a grenade.[11]
Once the crewmember responsible owned up to their mistake, Vi reassigned them as Kokonoe's temporary assistant, clarifying that by 'temporary', she meant that Kokonoe would actually be punished if the crewmember returned with tentacles or extra eyes. Despite Vi's outburst, Zev still went ahead and performed the song that Bobby had requested: AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long, which happened to be the song that Bobby and Vi had played during the aforementioned lovemaking session. Once Vi had recovered from the overwhelming embarrassment, she hit Zev with such force that the Juraian was flung through the curtains of the stage and suitably injured.[11] However, Vi soon chased after Zev and tended to his wounds because she realized that Bobby was more to blame for embarrassing her than Zev was, because it was Bobby who had put Zev up to the act.[12]
A few moments later, Vi relaxed in the cafeteria and took a moment to stare at her picture of Bobby. Xanxus approached her and asked if the man featured in the picture was the legendary Bobby that he had heard so much about. Vi nonchalantly replied "He's legendary, alright. Especially among the girls back home. A lot of girls had coniptions when they saw he liked spending time with me more than them".[13]
The Battle of Coridan III[edit | edit source]
In the Battle of Coridan III, Bobby was put in command of the new and improved In Amber-Clad in the Great Bebop Fleet. Dorothy Wayneright telepathically ordered Bobby to prepare to attack the Fleet of Umbra.[14]

However, for most of her childhood and teenage years, she was forced to stay and work in an orphanage which basically amounted more to a child-powered fishery. Connected to her past in the orphanage, Vi keeps in touch with another orphan by the name of "Bobby." Her mentions of him show that they were good friends, to say the very least - And based on a recent joke of Zev Raregroove's doing, they might have been (and may still be) quite closer than just friends."
