BZPB: Revised Edition, also known as The Retelling, is a epic written by User:Heat that presents an alternate take on the backstory of the original BZPB RPG, with the goal of presenting it as more of a cohesive narrative as opposed to the necessarily messy and improvisational nature of the RPG. Due to divergences with the story of the RPG, it is set in its own universe, dubbed the Retelling Universe.

The following is DRJ's outline of the first three "seasons" that were planned for the story.
Seasons 1-2[edit | edit source]
After losing the battle of Nynrah, Ynot makes contact with Zev, a mutual acquaintance of both Ynot and Blackout, and describes Blackout's new allies to him. Zev seems to recognise Malygos, and immediately heads for Destral to warn Blackout of the danger Malygos poses. Blackout laughs him off, and tells him that he already knows how dangerous Malygos is and has taken measures to contain him. Zev and his friends rob the Destral vault, and make off with one part of a map which shows the location of the Master Sword, a legendary weapon forged by the Riders millenia ago. Zev hopes to use the weapon to defeat Malygos and Blackout. However, they are unable to take the other part, and Blackout decides to follow Zev into space to find the two remaining parts of the map, and therefore the Sword. (The parts of the map contain hints towards the location of the other parts.)
Despite Zev's best attempts, Blackout finds three parts of the map, which is enough to figure out the Sword's location. It is being kept on an abandoned moon, guarded by an order of warrior-monks. Blackout and co. defeat the monks and make off with the Sword. They face off with Zev and co. on a planet called Judoon, and win, partly due to the Sword's power, and partly due to interference by mercenaries working for the mysterious 'Liquid Ocelot'.
Blackout returns to the Matoran Universe, and, with the help of Malygos's magic, he captures Teridax and banishes him to another dimension. Now in control of the Brotherhood, he assassinates his internal enemies, including Icarax. Subsequently, he activates the Hub, a supercomputer linked to the brains of captured members of the Order of Mata Nui, which allows him to break into the Order's secret telepathic network and feed them false information. Using this ability, he convinces them that the Brotherhood plans to attack using the Skakdi. The Order launches an all-out assault on Zakaz, and, while they are distracted, the Makuta attack Xia, break the Order/Dark Hunter blockade around it and take over the weapon factories there. Finally, using the combined forces of the Brotherhood and Malygos' dragonflights, Blackout and Malygos descend on Zakaz, decimate the Order occupation force, and then blitz Metru Nui. Blackout and Ynot face off on Mata Nui, and Ynot fakes his death. He leaves the MU to travel the universe and grow stronger. During his travels, he meets Xeno, Cicero, and Shika.
A junta known as the Five Kings is formed at Metru Nui to ostensibly rule the MU, but everyone knows that Blackout and Malygos are the true rulers. Several alien races who have trade interests in the MU are sceptical of the new government, and consider attacking and overthrowing the Five Kings.
At the same time, Liquid Ocelot, a Vortixx expert in genetic engineering who collaborated with the Vrai during their invasion of the MU and left to start his own criminal empire afterwards, kidnaps the Prime Minister of Pulse, a wealthy planet rich in mineral reserves, and takes his place. He plans to get revenge on Blackout by sabotaging a peace conference and ensuring that the invasion will take place, allowing him to occupy the MU and use it as a base for his criminal activity. Blackout and Zev join forces to expose him and send him to prison. This act seems to persuade the alien governments that the Five Kings won't try to kick them out of the MU, and they reluctantly back the new government.
With their rule over the MU now ensured, Blackout and Malygos put the various lifeforms therein to work building a space fleet. Many Matoran are deported from their islands and forced to work on a secret project on Destral. Malygos, Anzu, and Mephistroth are secretly preparing to remove their last enemy; Blackout himself. Meanwhile, a resistance movement forms under the leadership of Zev and Sasuken, uniting the Anima and Idiotas, Zev's friends, several Toa, and remnants of the Dark Hunters and the Order of Mata Nui. Shaern grieves for the supposedly fallen Ynot.
For its first offensive, the resistance attacks Voya Nui. It is pushed back, but still inflicts significant losses on the Five Kings' armies. Now more confident, the resistance continues harassing Blackout and Malygos' forces, preparing for a final assault.
Back outside the MU, Ynot becomes known as an adventurer and glory-seeker. He travels around the universe, fighting off various menaces, including the Lich King and the Fallen, until he finally decides to return to the Matoran Universe. By chance, he arrives just in time to help a resistance unit out of trouble. Everyone, especially Shaern, is pretty pissed at him, but they welcome him back.
Malygos makes secret contact with the resistance, proposing to leave the MU forever if they focus on Blackout from now on. Blackout catches word of this deal, and lays siege to Zev's headquarters. Despite heavy resistance, the headquarters is destroyed, and the resistance left significantly weakened.
At the same time, Liquid Ocelot is still running his criminal empire from his cell at Impel Down, not feeling the need to escape any time soon. That said, he still wants revenge, and, to this end, contacts the Shadow Architect, head of the peace-keeping organisation known as the Shadow Proclamation which runs Impel Down, promising to reveal information about Zev's own (non-existent) crimes. The Architect makes his way to Impel Down, but on the way, a bomb goes off on board his ship, killing him. At the same time, Ocelot is stabbed by another prisoner. The Proclamation draws the logical conclusion; Zev is trying to prevent information about his crimes from getting out. Zev is captured and arrested, and Ocelot gloats.
Finally, Malygos, in tandem with the remainder of the resistance, turns on Blackout, taking most of the fleet for himself. A war erupts, and Blackout reveals the secret project he's been working on at Destral; he has transformed the entire island into a warship, now known as Darkmount. Ynot and the Anima attack the ship, but fall into a trap and are imprisoned in another dimension, known as Chronospace.
Blackout counterattacks, retaking half the space fleet. However, a new force makes its appearance: the Apprentices of Caiaphus. On their master's orders, the Apprentices bomb Karda Nui, severely damaging Mata Nui's inner workings and leaving perhaps several months before the MU becomes uninhabitable. Blackout and Malygos declare a truce, use the fleet to evacuate as much of the MU as possible, and go their separate ways...
Season 3[edit | edit source]
In a world reformed by interstellar trade and technology, Bara Magna is thriving, looking forward to a modicum of the glorious past its people knew under the Great Beings. The Skrall, Vorox, and Bone Hunters have been chased away, reduced to haunting the wastelands. Tuma, once leader of the Skrall, has been exiled due to his incompetence.
One day, another leader Skrall appears out of the shadows. Calling himself 'Le Chiffre', he promises to lead the Skrall into a war that will see them rule over Bara Magna once more. The Rock Tribe, eager for vengeance, accept his leadership and prepare for a world war. Perhaps they would be less eager if they knew that Le Chiffre was not a Skrall, but an Agori hiding in a suit of power armour provided to him by Makuta Blackout, and the secret leader of the Bara Magna branch of a small religious cult called ZFT.
At the same time, a Vrai called Xeno arrives on Bara Magna, seeking refuge from his fellow Vrai, but also fulfilling a mysterious mission given to him by Ynot, who remains trapped in Chronospace. After he arrives on Bara Magna, Ynot manages to send him a message from Chronospace; his sword, Ka-Oni-Santsu.
While in Atero, Xeno encounters several people; the mysterious entity known as Shika, another friend of Ynot's, Tratus, a Fire Agori, and Ulysses, an Agori from the small Lightning Tribe of Amphron, and recruits them all to his mission. Xeno seeks out a Skrall agent and offers to join their army, and the intrigued agent takes him to Roxtus to meet Le Chiffre himself. Sadly, the cult leader recognises Ka-Oni-Santsu from Blackout's stories, and the Vrai must fight his way out of Roxtus. He takes refuge in Amphron, and... (The text cuts off here.)
