This article is about the magician who mastered the Second Magic. For the Second Magic itself, which was also named "Zelretch" after the man who mastered it, see Second Magic.

Zelretch was a magician who mastered the Second Magic.

History[edit | edit source]

In 150,081 CMT, Brunestud of the Crimson Moon angrily warned Nefelpitou that Zelretch would be the first person he would consume after his return to the mortal plane.[1]

Later that year, Prudence Franklin informed Namah, Pitou, Ynot, and Zev that the Second Magic was named 'Zelretch' after its only living master. When Zev asked Prudence how she knew so much about the Second Magic, Atem appeared and commented that Prudence knew so much because she had been designated to inherit the Second Magic from Zelretch himself.[2] Atem added that he could help them retrieve the Kaleidoscope Sword: New Edition because it had been left in his care by Zelretch; a claim that Prudence doubted because, as far as she was aware, the sword had been stolen from Zelretch several years prior and never retrieved. Atem explained that Zelretch had needed the sword to be hidden somewhere that even he would not know the location of, and he needed its disappearance to look like a theft, so Atem had obliged him by stealing the sword in the same moment that Zelretch was informed that someone would be staging an elaborate theft. Finally, Atem explained that he had not already brought the sword to the Bebop II because it had sealed itself over the centuries without Zelretch's presence and could only be awakened by a user of the Second Magic.[3]

After Atem disappeared, Prudence told Viriathus that Zelretch had such a profound and dynamic control over the Second Magic that he was able to create several tools based on its principles, including the Kaleidoscope Sword and its successor, the Kaleidoscope Sword: New Edition.[4]
