Tayne was a mercenary partnered with Crikey Shqwertiyul who travelled to Oquro to collect the intergalactic bounty on Brendan Fraser's head.

Description[edit | edit source]

Tayne was a tall, slender, tan-colored mosquito-like humanoid whose face and body were much like that of a mosquito, with clear, veinous wings protruding out of his thorax and a proboscis-like structure in the place of a "nose". His eyes, however, were golden and reptilian in nature. Tayne had multiple appendages, using two as legs to stand upright like a human and the others as arms. He typically wore a pair of blue-tinted leather vintage goggles and carried his equipment in a light blue satchel,[1] but on Oquro he donned a full-body plague doctor suit to protect himself from the lethal spores emitted by the Black Cloud.[2]

Tayne was a highly curious individual but was cautious when in danger. His engineering background, as well as his taste for intergalactic adventure, were both manifestations of his curious nature. However, he tended to avoid direct confrontations even when necessary and over-think situations due to a sense of paranoia. He owned a blaster pistol that he was skilled with, but he could also use his proboscis as a weapon and use his wings to fly.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In 150,084 CMT, Tayne and Crikey Shqwertiyul decided to pursue the intergalactic bounty on Brendan Fraser, who was en route to Oquro. When Tayne and Crikey visited a trading station to stock up for their mission, a mysterious clockmaker informed them that Oquro was covered with infectious spores, but offered to sell them a special suit that would provide protection from the spores. The clockmaker did not specify how the suit worked, but mentioned something about Haha'J-UsT Seying energy and that the suit was "not the paladin's poetry". Tayne decided to trust the clockmaker and bought the plague doctor suit, while Crikey donned a standard hazmat suit for the mission.[2]

Tayne parked his ship close to Fraser's location on Oquro and noticed the former actor approach some of the spore pods. Tayne began to have second thoughts about the mission because of the danger that the spores posed and because of his respect for Fraser as an actor, but continued nonetheless and flew in front of Fraser to apprehend him.[2] However, before Fraser could respond, a Cooperative dropship flew overhead and dropped a Trilagon, the Kraken, in front of them, who immediately destroyed a cluster of spore pods and some ghouls that lurched toward them.[3] Though Tayne was awed by the appearance of the Kraken because he had previously thought that Trilagons were a myth,[4] Fraser was overcome by fear and ran, but fell into an underground pool filled with ghouls.[5] Tayne worked with Crikey, the Kraken, and Fraser himself to defeat the ghouls[6] and decided to follow the Kraken through the underground sewer network towards the TechnoDyne building out of intrigue towards the Kraken's mission.[7]

Halfway through the sewers, the four of them were confronted by Too R. Isst and a shapeshifting ghoul named "Alex", each of whom accused the other being a ghoul. Tayne correctly guessed that "Alex" was the ghoul[7] and "Alex" was subsequently destroyed by Brendan Fraser's JUST.[8] Too R. Isst then joined the group[9] and they continued on their journey,[10] with Tayne killing another ghoul by shooting it in the head.[11] When the five of them reached the underside of the TechnoDyne building, the Kraken ripped out the floor to create a direct path for them to walk up and into the bottom floor.[12] However, mere moments after they entered the building, an injured Lucy Farr flew through the wall in front of them, followed by the appearance of David Dalton, who challenged the Kraken to a fight.[13] In an act of extreme bravery, Tayne jumped in front of the titan and implored him to "take it easy" in an attempt to calm him down.[14]
