The version of Sefer Yetzirah native to the Knowledge Dimension is a canon agent who was created by the Preservers to uphold the Canonical Directive by removing knowledge that has leaked from the Knowledge Dimension into the lower planes of the multiverse. Inspired by the heroic sacrifice of the Reborn Universe's Sefer Yetzirah, the Chief Archivist named Guinan allowed Sefer to live again by imprinting her memories and persona into a new Akashic body so that she would be able to benefit from the willpower and determination she had in her previous life when embarking on her new purpose. However, after thousands of missions spanning countless lifetimes, Sefer's humanity has faded, leaving her little more than an emotionally detached deus ex machina. To many, she is known as "the Timeless Wanderer" or simply "the Wanderer" due to her nature as a being who exists outside of time.

History[edit | edit source]

Creation... Or Recreation[edit | edit source]

In response to the increasing awareness of the Knowledge Dimension among the inhabitants of the Prime Dimensions and their subsequent attempts to access it, the Preservers of the Knowledge Dimension established the Canonical Directive: a new mandate that declared that any information that was henceforth stolen from the Knowledge Dimension would be tracked down and extracted from the minds of whoever stole it, and that, if the stolen information had been used to make changes to any other reality or universe, those changes would be reverted by one of the Knowledge Dimension's to-be-appointed "canon agents" through careful, responsible manipulation of time. When the time came to select candidates for the first canon agents, the Senior Archivist Guinan selected the version of Sefer Yetzirah from the Reborn Universe due to the immense willpower and determination she had displayed during her life. The Archivists recovered Sefer's consciousness and imprinted it in a new Akashic body.[1]

When the new Sefer awoke, Guinan welcomed her to the Knowledge Dimension by appearing in front of her at an empty bar and offering her a drink of Agresian ale, which Guinan had learned was RBU Sefer's favorite alcoholic drink. Although the new Sefer was aware that she had died, the rest of her implanted memories did not surface until she remembered that only Lilith knew what her favorite brand of ale was, which was a personal and private fact that this unfamiliar bartender could not possibly have known. When Sefer pursued this train of thought, the rest of her memories began to flood to the surface of her mind, causing a period of immense distress that Guinan guided her through. At Sefer's behest, Guinan explained that Sefer was an artificial construct who had been created using the memories of RBU Sefer, who had died at the conclusion of the Sixth Arc Crusade, for a new and greater purpose. Once the memory imprinting process had been completed, the new Sefer manifested near-indestructible armor and advanced psychometric powers that enabled her to see into the source code of the multiverse.[1]

Sefer was then transported by Guinan to another area of the Knowledge Dimension that contained two infinitely long rows of plain white bookshelves. Guinan handed Sefer a book titled "The Canonical Directive - First Edition", but when she opened it, Guinan teasingly slammed it shut, saying that her first lesson would be a practical.[1] Guinan then teleported Sefer and herself to the Robin Hood Universe, where they watched the eponymous tale being played out by alternate versions of some of the characters Sefer had known in her previous life in the Reborn Universe. Sefer concluded that the existence of a "Robin Hood Universe" implied that it had been created by chance by the multiverse's infinity, but Guinan informed her that the multiverse could contain a maximum of only 500 universes at any one time, meaning that, in the case of the Robin Hood Universe, one of the Users must have felt like rewriting Robin Hood. After teleporting them both back to the Knowledge Dimension, Guinan used the Robin Hood Universe as an example of how everything in the multiverse was finite, curated, and precious, adding to the importance of her new purpose. Sefer was then educated on the nature of Akasha, Akashic energy, the Users, and her purpose and abilities as a canon agent before being dispatched on her first mission.[2]

Rewriting the Dark Universe[edit | edit source]

Thousands of canon clean-up missions and countless years later, an older and more experienced Sefer, now known as "the Wanderer" and equipped with the Revision Blade, arrived in the Dark Universe for one of her largest assignments yet. Finding herself in the heart of the Ta'har-Makuta Empire on Tybion Primaris, Sefer learned that her counterpart from this universe, "Dusefer", had followed Dukamu through a crack in space-time to the Knowledge Dimension thousands of years earlier, stealing knowledge regarding the future of the Dark Universe that enabled her to conquer it upon her return. In addition, Dusefer had discovered the existence of the Wanderer and the Canon Agency by reading The Annals of the Wanderer, and took measures to prevent their interference by capturing and killing any canon agents who dared to visit her universe. Deciding that the period before the expansion of Dusefer's empire would be the best place to start fixing history, Sefer attempted to generate a time portal there, only to find that Dusefer had somehow reharmonized the fourth wall to block her attempts. Detecting Sefer's intrusion, Dusefer teleported her to the bridge of the Divine Providence and trapped her in an apathy field that immobilized her and nullified her Akashic powers while Dusefer berated her for trespassing in her empire and gloated about killing other canon agents.[2]

During their mostly-one-sided conversation, Sefer asked Dusefer if she knew the answer to one question that had been troubling her for some time: the cause of the plotholes and other interdimensional tunnels that were allowing inhabitants of the Prime Dimensions like Dusefer herself to access the Knowledge Dimension. However, Dusefer stated that neither she nor Dukamu created their breach themselves; they had only discovered it and entered it. Dusefer then eagerly prepared to kill Sefer because the knowledge she had extracted from the Knowledge Dimension and its canon agents over the years had predicted that their meeting would result in the death of the Wanderer and the continued existence of her empire, but her hubris was challenged when Sefer revealed that her information was outdated because history had since been changed. Moments later, an enormous fleet of enemy ships under the command of Thomas Wiseau and Alex Jones began firing upon Dusefer's forces, damaging the Divine Providence and disrupting the apathy field that had kept Sefer contained, allowing her to summon the Revision Blade. The enraged Dusefer then summoned her own weapon, the Lance of Taenarus, and engaged Sefer in a fierce duel, eventually kicking Sefer with such force that she was sent flying out of the Divine Providence and across the skies of Tybion Primaris itself.[2]

Floating among the clouds while Dusefer's ships went to war against her enemies, Sefer continued to defend herself from the Lance of Taenarus, whose destructive reach could be extended far beyond its physical form, until one of the swings of the Lance slammed Sefer into one of the upper levels of a nearby skyscraper. There, Dusefer teleported to Sefer so that they could continue the duel in person, the sheer power of their clashing blades bringing ruin to the building around them. Although their swordplay was evenly matched, the fact that the Revision Blade (which was created and powered by Akashic energy) was more powerful than the Lance of Taenarus (which was created and powered by that universe's Fruit of Life) enabled Sefer to overpower Dusefer and deal a killing blow, embedding the Revision Blade in her chest. As she lay dying, Dusefer vowed that she would return, before succumbing to her injuries. With Dusefer dead, the Revision Blade was able to use the power of Akasha to unravel the timeline that she had created and return the Dark Universe to its proper state, depositing Sefer into Chronospace in the process. However, Sefer's mission was not yet complete: she still needed to travel back in time and seal the original breach that had allowed Dusefer to enter the Knowledge Dimension in the first place. With this in mind, Sefer sheathed the Revision Blade and teleported away.[2]

A Mazkertis Impostor?[edit | edit source]

As part of her mission to clean up intracanonical contamination, Sefer arrived in the Reborn Universe in 7 AR in pursuit of a sorcerer named Sikkatim who had learned of her existence from the The Annals of the Wanderer, which had somehow fallen into the hands of the Covenant before Sikkatim killed its protectors and took the book for himself. When a fearful Sikkatim asked Sefer if she was going to reset his timeline, Sefer replied that she would not because the knowledge he had gained from the book was "inconsequential". However, she was perplexed by Sikkatim's apparent resemblance to Mazkertis in appearance, abilities, and behaviour, as well as the fact that she could not read his entire history because significant chunks were "missing". Sefer decided to let Sikkatim go, but warned him that she would be monitoring him.[3]

A Trip to Urka-Nazkarath[edit | edit source]

In 150,084 CMT (Day 76 of The Mazkertis Paradox arc), Sefer appeared in the Kra'lythe's home realm of Urka-Nazkarath to rescue Quolas before he could be killed by the Kra'lythe. She used Akashic light to keep Eclipse and the Kra'lythe at bay while she pulled Quolas into interdimensional space. When the weakened Quolas asked her who she was, she merely replied that she was Sefer Yetzirah, and that he now owed her one.[4]

Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]

  • Akashic Energy Manipulation: Sefer can draw and manipulate energy from Akasha for a variety of applications, such as encasing herself in an Akashic forcefield to protect her from damage during combat.[2]
  • Flight: Sefer has the ability to levitate and fly.[2]
  • Ultimate Psychometry: As a canon agent, Sefer has the ability to visualize and comprehend the entire history of a person or object simply by looking at them, allowing her to easily determine temporal abnormalities.[1]
  • Ultimate Teleportation: As an Akashic being, Sefer has the ability to travel anywhere in the entire BZPB Multiverse.[2]
  • Space-Time Portal Manipulation: As a canon agent, Sefer can open and close space-time portals, fissures, and entryways to any part of the multiverse. This is her primary method of travelling through time.[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • This version of Sefer was created by JS, who wrote some of her appearances as part of the original plan for BZPB's 10th anniversary story (which ended up being replaced by a shorter story, Ten Years Gone, when the scope of the original plan grew too large and the writers ran out of time and motivation to finish it). Rather than let such a cool concept go to waste, however, Kon incorporated what JS had written (with his permission) into chapters 19 and 20 of The Mazkertis Paradox and expanded on his ideas there.
