This article is about the leader of the We'd Warriors. For other characters named Ross, see Ross (disambiguation).

Old Man Ross, also known as Ross the Ogre due to his ogre-like appearance when transformed, was the leader of the We'd Warriors.

Description[edit | edit source]

Old Man Ross's normal form was that of a fat old man with a white beard, black skin, and brown eyes. When he smoked We'd with a secret ingredient added, his body underwent a transformation that converted all his fat into pure muscle, increased his height to twelve feet, and turned his irises a bright red color, making him look several decades younger upon completion of the process. Old Man Ross's weapon of choice was a ten-meter-long metal stick.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Old Man Ross had a long personal history with Lord Zrintch that was not exactly clear. Ross once thought that he had gotten rid of Zrintch "hundreds of years ago",[2] but by 150,084 CMT, the two had formed an alliance in pursuit of a common goal. This alliance was bolstered by the importance that Zrintch placed on the We'd Warriors - he even thought that saving the last of the We'd Warriors was more important than the survival of the Dong Squad.[3]

By 150,084 CMT, Old Man Ross and the We'd Warriors had relocated to the village of Dok on Dekan for what seemed to be their own protection. Old Man Ross was allowed to walk free in the village while the rest of the We'd Warriors were locked in a cellar full of constantly burning We'd in order to maintain their abilities and to conceal them from their enemies. Old Man Ross was sitting above this chamber smoking We'd when a denizen of the village ran up to him and informed him that a giant boat-like spaceship had appeared above the village with presumably hostile intentions. The villager added that Ross was the only one who could protect Dok because all of the Kugs had been killed and their weapons defence systems had been destroyed. Deciding that he had no choice but to help the villagers, Ross added a special ingredient to his We'd that transformed him into his Ogre form, then instructed the villager to release his fellow We'd Warriors and to evacuate all villagers from Dok. While the villager carried out Ross's instructions and ordered an evacuation, Ross the Ogre dug his weapon of choice, a ten meter-long metal stick, out of the ground beneath his hut and walked out to face the threat as his aura expanded around him.[1]

Looking up at the spaceship, Ross saw that its owner, Peacock, had become caught in a battle of her own against Caster. However, Ross still considered them both invaders and decided to take the opportunity to destroy Peacock's ship while she was distracted. Ross transferred some of his auric energy into his stick, causing it to grow from ten metres long to a hundred, and used the same power to launch himself towards Peacock's ship, poised to strike it with the full force of his aura-imbued stick.[4] However, before Ross's stick could make contact with the ship, one or more Users hid a time bubble generator in the area that froze Peacock, her ship, and Caster in a time bubble, causing Ross to bounce straight off the bubble with no damage inflicted. As Ross landed back on the ground, he was approached by the rest of the We'd Warriors, who accused him of summoning them for nothing. In response, Ross merely informed them that they were mistaken and pulled out his EyePhone[5] to contact Lord Zrintch. After Ross caught up with his old friend, he requested extraction from Dekan because he could sense something wrong in the HahaJ'UsT-Seying force, which meant that the death of the Kugs on Dekan had "not been enough" to fix whatever problem Zrintch and his allies were facing. Zrintch correctly guessed that Old Man Ross wanted to be taken to the Kugs' last refuge: Rhadan.[3]

While Old Man Ross and his disciples waited for Zrintch's forces to pick them up, Boltman and the YONBOTS touched down in Dok to search it for traces of anime. The We'd Warriors hid in the foliage and watched as Boltman destroyed the time-bubble generator, allowing time to progress in the area around Peacock's ship once more. Peacock killed Caster with a bullet to the head and challenged Boltman to a fight, but he soon killed her and Double, her friend on-board, with the help of the YONBOTS. With their enemies neutralized, the We'd Warriors decided that Boltman was no threat to them and emerged from the bushes to thank him for his work. After Boltman returned the thanks and left the planet with the YONBOTS, Old Man Ross returned to his usual form and began to smoke his pipe while reminiscing about his younger days.[2]

Ross was then confronted by Wal Wal and Abit, who made sure that he knew that they were dissatisfied with the We'd Warriors' exile to Dekan, which prompted Ross to reveal that Sinjon had called him earlier that day to tell him that the Tiger Youth were about to raid Gaon Kug's palace on Rhadan. The excited We'd Warriors all wanted to help their families to win the civil war, so Ross assured them that a ship was on its way to take them home to Rhadan. Ross was surprised to see that the ship that Zrintch had promised to send was his own personal vessel, which soon touched down in front of the We'd Warriors. Zrintch informed the We'd Warriors that he would take them to a Cooperative convention instead of Rhadan, because he needed the We'd Warriors to guard the meeting venue. Old Man Ross expressed his annoyance in words, but Zrintch assured him that, once the meeting was over, he would take the We'd Warriors home. Ross had no choice but to agree, so the We'd Warriors followed Zrintch into the ship, which then left Dekan on a course for the Cooperative convention venue.[2]

Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]

  • Ogre Transformation: By lacing his We'd with an unidentified substance, Old Man Ross underwent a transformation process that converted his fat into pure muscle, increased his height to twelve feet, and multiplied his strength.[1]
  • Aura Manipulation: In Ogre form, Old Man Ross had the ability to manipulate his own aura and use it to charge and transform weapons, such as his ten foot-long metal stick, whose size was increased to a hundred feet when imbued with some of Ross's auric energy. He could also use auric energy to launch himself off the ground and presumably to strengthen other physical attacks.[4]
