Nynrah was the island home of Kakamu and the Nynrah Ghosts in the Matoran Universe.

Locations[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

Nynrah was built by the Matoran according to the Great Beings' specifications during the construction of the Matoran Universe. Rather than create another biomechanical being like Artakha to rule over the island of Nynrah, the Great Beings appointed a member of their own species: a Core War veteran named Koranis, whose task would be to supervise and catalogue the creations of the Matoran on the island. These Matoran - the Nynrah Ghosts - were a large group of Fe-Matoran with advanced technological skills who were driven to create new and advanced weapons technologies for the rest of the Matoran Universe. Koranis was hesitant to accept leadership of Nynrah because it would mean that he would be trapped within Mata Nui for the entire duration of the Great Spirit's mission, but accepted because he feared that to do so was the only way to escape from the coming Shattering.[1]

Isolated from his own kind within the Matoran Universe, Koranis grew resentful of Matoran and Great Beings alike. He established a tyrannical rule on Nynrah over the millennia, confiscating many inventions that could be used to improve the quality of life in the Matoran Universe and hoarding the most advanced creations for himself. This changed when a new recruit in the Brotherhood of Makuta named Kakamu was sent to supervise the island and ensure cooperation with the Brotherhood's goals, which brought him into conflict with Koranis. Despite Koranis's use of superior weaponry, Kakamu overpowered the tyrant through a combination of his Kraata powers and superior fighting skills and exiled him from the island. The Nynrah Ghosts readily accepted Kakamu as their new ruler and thanked him with an underground laboratory from which he could conduct his experiments. Kakamu used this laboratory as his base of operations for the rest of his tenure in the Brotherhood of Makuta, recruiting an assistant from Karda Nui named Mocax and storing most of his creations there, such as the Kordaz Sabersword and the Nirak Laser-Drill.[1]

After Kakamu left the ranks of the Brotherhood of Makuta, Blackout had the contents of the lab and its entire database transferred to Destral, leaving it empty.[2]

In 100,080 CMT, Jarr, Luux, Marlon, Kinex, and Telino travelled to Nynrah and made an alliance with several Nynrah Ghosts,[3] including their leader.[4] After these Nynrah Ghosts left the island with the mercenaries in their speeder, Blackout obliterated Nynrah with a T-4 missile as part of his plan to conquer the Matoran Universe.[3] Jarr was enraged at the loss of Nynrah and travelled to Destral for revenge on Blackout,[5] but he and his Nynrah Ghost allies were blasted into the Protodermis Sea by Makuta Grahmah.[6] Despite what was believed at the time, some sects of Nynrah Ghosts (including the Norman) survived the destruction of Nynrah and would eventually find a safe haven in the form of Malchior IV by 150,080 CMT.[7]
