The Night of Wallachia was a spirit-like entity who protected the Masquerade in the City at Night.

History[edit | edit source]

In 150,081 CMT, the Night of Wallacha appeared to Ta'harok in the City at Night and asked the Ta'har what his purpose there was. Because some of the city's residents stared at Ta'harok in fear and suspicion, but seemed to not notice Wallachia, Wallachia explained to Ta'harok that he could be seen only by Ta'harok at that time.[2] Ta'harok told Wallachia that he did not know what his own purpose was because he had only recently been resurrected by John Shepard, and asked Wallachia to help him remove the explosive collar that Shepard had affixed to his neck.[3] However, Wallachia replied that to do so was outside his realm of influence and explained that his only objective there was to ensure that Ta'harok did not endanger the Masquerade. Wallachia then began to fade into streams of glowing crimson numbers and letters and disappeared from view.[4]

Moments later, Wallachia appeared in front of Klaud Ortenrosse elsewhere in the city and gave him the same warning not to endanger the Masquerade, especially because Klaud was "not a Dead Apostle Ancestor... yet". Klaud ignored Wallachia and started to sing "Masquerade" from The Phantom of the Opera instead, but Wallachia issued two final words of warning - "Tread softly" - and disappeared again in the same manner as before.[4]
