Magellan was the Chief Warden of Impel Down before Blackout attacked the prison.

Description[edit | edit source]

Magellan resembled both a gargoyle, due to his sharp, angular features, and a mandrill, due to the blue markings beneath his eyes and thick black sideburns. He was a gigantic man; approximately three times the size of an average human. He wore a black-colored suit with a red shirt underneath. The horns that protruded from the back of his head were not real horns; they were detachable weapons that concealed his twintail-styled hair.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Long ago in Impel Down, there was no Vice Warden. Instead, there were two Chief Wardens: Magellan, and the much more dangerous Shiryuu. Both were equals in power, but Magellan's working hours were limited by the gastrointestinal aftermaths of his consumption of poisonous foods, so Shiryuu was considered much more dangerous.[1]

One day, while Magellan had been blessed by a rare reprieve from his stomachaches and likewise, he was on patrol in Level Two, where he discovered a grisly sight: several dismembered, disembowelled or beheaded prisoners strewn about, laying in pools of blood and guts. As he progressed further into the level, he discovered Shiryuu, whose blade was soaked in the blood of the prisoners. Magellan knew that Shiryuu had always been sadistic and believed the prisoners to be no more than trash, but this behavior was unacceptable, so he fought Shiryuu and narrowly defeated him. Shiryuu was subsequently sentenced to death in Impel Down, but was given a postponed sentence so that the Galactic Government could decide to use his execution as a chance to boost their popularity at a later date.[1]

After the incident, Magellan continued to serve as the Chief Warden of Impel Down alongside Vice Warden Hannyabal and Chief Guard Sadi.[1]

In 100,080 CMT, Magellan and the rest of the Gaolers managed to escape Makuta Blackout's attack on Impel Down through the assistance of an unidentified individual, who warned them of the attack beforehand and gave them instructions on how to escape. Level Six contained a clue as to how the Gaolers escaped: there were no significant residues left that matched the prisoners thought to have been killed in the battle, even though an explosion occurred in such close proximity to them that they should have been fossilized. Zev Raregroove was aware of Magellan's survival and once mentioned it in passing.[1]

Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]

  • Poison Immunity: Magellan could consume large amounts of poisoned foods without worsening his health; however, the side effect of this was frequent bowel movements.[1]

Also, Zev's words are revealed to be true, as Shiryuu has made a few bloody entrances onto the stage."
