This article is about the savior and ruler of the Sahagin species. For other meanings of "leviathan", see Leviathan (disambiguation).

Leviathan, Lord of the Whorl, is a colossal serpentine entity worshipped by the Sahagin and elected as the leader of their race.

Description[edit | edit source]

Leviathan resembles the Leviathan of Biblical lore: a colossal, serpentine sea creature, hundreds of feet long from head to tail, covered in scales and spines.[1] However, Leviathan is not only sentient, but is a cunning and determined ruler, having saved the Sahagin from centuries of servitude and reshaped them into potential conquerors of the stars.[2] Leviathan's ancient face is covered with scale plates that cover elongated gills that move with his voice, which itself is low and booming, reminiscent of the echoing of the waves. He has piercing red eyes and two large, wing-like fins at the top of his form, along with several pairs of smaller fins along the length of his tail.[3]

History[edit | edit source]

Legends of the Sahagin[edit | edit source]

Legends of the Sahagin state that, at the conclusion of a centuries-long period where they were enslaved by the Amalj'aa, the creature known as Leviathan heard their pleas for freedom and emerged from the seas of Sapsa to answer them. Leviathan created a titanic wave that swept over the surface of the planet, drowning the Amalj'aa and their empire and liberating the enslaved Sahagin. From that point onward, the Sahagin regarded Leviathan as the savior of their entire race and began to worship him like a god. As the new ruler of the Sahagin, Leviathan wished to expand his territory and sent his servants to other worlds to form alliances so that no "shorewalkers" would ever pose a threat to them again.[2] One such world was Linkit, which the Sahagin terraformed in 150,084 CMT in order to ingratiate themselves with the remnants of the Agrippa civilizations on the planet.[4]

Alliance with Sefer[edit | edit source]

At around the same time, Takemikazuchi Emperor Sefer Yetzirah arrived on Sapsa and requested an audience with Leviathan to discuss a potential alliance.[5] Leviathan waited in the seas beneath the Chamber of the Whorlspeakers[6] while Sefer presented her proposal to the Whorlspeaker Council. If the proposed treaty was agreed upon, the Takemikazuchi and Sahagin would enter into a mutual nonaggression pact and movement and trade would be unrestricted between both nations, with the Sahagin being allowed to colonize the waters of Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar in return for permitting the presence of Takemikazuchi military vessels on Sapsa.[7] At this point, Leviathan himself emerged from a gigantic circular portal in the center of the room to assume control over the negotiations on the behalf of the Sahagin.[3]

Leviathan recognized Sefer as the young woman who had been "causing a fuss" across the cosmos at the time.[3] He told her that he found the terms of the alliance agreeable and added that he would accept her proposal on the condition that the Takemikazuchi Empire dissolve their alliance with the Republic of Luria, because he thought the Lurians were "cruel monsters deserving only of subjugation".[8] Sefer replied that she would not wage war on the Republic because she had another plan to depose Gabriel Ascheron, and promised Leviathan that if he hated the Republic in its current state as much as she did, then allying with the Takemikazuchi would be the best course of action.[9] Leviathan praised Sefer for her tactical way of thinking, but asked for an assurance that the domain of the Sahagin would not be threatened by an alliance between their two peoples.[10] In response, Sefer promised Leviathan that the Sahagin would have nothing to fear from the Takemikazuchi because Leviathan was a just and fair leader who would never fall to the depths that Ascheron did; and because Leviathan was worshipped as a god in the Sahagin's civilization, there could be no replacement for him that the Sahagin would accept even if he could be deposed.[11] Leviathan thanked Sefer and declared that the Sahagin were now friends of the Takamikazuchi.[12] Sefer returned the thanks and departed.[13]

The Mazkertis Paradox[edit | edit source]

Later, Leviathan travelled through a sea portal to Linkit that the Sahagin had constructed with the help of their new allies, the Agrippa. Leviathan swam through the chute connected to the portal and triumphantly burst out of the water above to address his new Agrippa subjects, who cowered in fear of Leviathan's form. Leviathan ordered the Sahagin and Agrippa to rise, but before he could deliver an address to his gathered subjects, lightning struck the water around Leviathan and electrified him, causing him to scream and thrash in pain. One Sahagin priest, the leader of the Sahagin's expedition to Linkit, apologized because he had not been aware of the planet's "freak weather conditions", but Leviathan struck the priest with fury, sending him flying into the sea. It was then that the source of the lightning revealed itself: Shevak, a maddened and nomadic Lord of the Sith. Shevak openly challenged Leviathan and announced his intentions to overthrow him so that the Agrippa and Sahagin would follow him instead, so Leviathan responded with force. Leviathan used his control over water to trap Shevak inside a spinning sphere of the element, which Shevak then accidentally electrified with his own Force lightning, killing himself. Satisfied, Leviathan dissipated the sphere and allowed Shevak's corpse to fall in front of his followers as an example of what would happen to those who opposed him.[1]

Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]

  • Water Manipulation: Leviathan has demonstrated the ability to telekinetically manipulate the element of water and shape it into objects such as spheres while increasing its flow.[1]
