Laigula di Alim (c.3032-1646 BR) was a Dachori engineer and scientist, and often seen as one of the Rider Empire's greatest innovators, as much of the technological prowess of the military might of the Dachori is owed to him. He is known for inventions such as the fabled Craft of Laigula, a spaceship that even today marvels civilizations and surpasses most known intergalactic weaponry, but some of his other inventions are lost to history. Much of his life is shrouded in mystery, including the circumstances of his birth, and his cause of death. His reclusive nature only compounds the enigmas surrounding his temporal existence. That said, he is a legendary figure among academics across the galaxy.

History[edit | edit source]

Life & Career[edit | edit source]

Not much is known about Laigula's birthplace or his upbringing, as he refused to disclose information surrounding these areas of his life. Public records indicate that he came from the Alim family, and lived in their place of origin until he moved to the capital on the Rider home world. It was here that he studied engineering, physics, and robotics, demonstrating his intellectual prowess in the classroom. He graduated his institution with high honors, and made a few innovative (yet small-scale) inventions.

After impressing Dachori government officials with his academic and technological accomplishments, he was recruited to be part of a weapons development team that would aid the military in their wars of conquest. They approached the team with a major problem: while the Riders were brilliant tacticians, their rifles were older, and outclassed by those of their enemies at the time. It was Laigula who led the team to design the blueprints for the modern laser rifle's ancestor. Such innovation was renowned by Dachori society, and soon he was recognized by many awards and given a senior position in the most renowned Rider military research facility.

Death[edit | edit source]

The exact cause of death of Laigula di Alim is unknown, and there are many theories postulated by historians as to how exactly he passed.

Some scholars believe that he was killed for refusing to cooperate with the Rider government in building a dangerous weapon that could possibly annihilate millions, twice as many as the Craft of Laigula could ever hope to kill. This theory is corroborated by evidence of Laigula being disappointed in the current Dachori state of affairs, and reports of loud shouting near his home on the alleged night of his death. The state newspaper listed an obituary about him on the morning he was found dead, but left out any information, a practice that was often used for enemies of the state.

Others believe that the preceding theory has little evidence, as the practice of omitting information from obituaries of enemies of the state ceased to be commonplace 30 years prior to Laigula's death, so the entry was likely erroneously removed. Though these dissenting historians vary in their conjectures about di Alim's death, a significant number of them believe that he committed suicide as a result of his struggle with mental illness (as noted earlier, the Riders did not have many facilities to treat or aid those with severe conditions, leaving their troubles neglected). Finally, others believe that he had died of plague.

The eeriest legend, however, claims that di Alim's last journal entry before his death translates to: "This won't live long without me." Over a century after he passed, the Dachori Empire as a state collapsed.
