Kivalon is the brother of Dukamu, the feared ruler of the Dark Universe. In order to escape from his brother's evil regime, Kivalon enlisted the help of DU Quolas, who ensured that Kivalon's soul would be transplanted into the Original Universe through the use of a soul magnet implanted in the Matoran Vultraz. Unfortunately, the seeds of Dukamu's corruption were already growing within Kivalon's soul by the time he escaped, and that, coupled with the stresses of being torn out of his body, bypassing the sixth dimension multiple times, and having his mind split in two, turned the poor Makuta insane.

After the corrupted Kivalon echoed his brother's mantra that "death must come to the universe" one too many times, SMK trapped him in a stasis pod beneath the surface of Stelta-Stal.

History[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

It's not confirmed whether Kivalon is younger or older than Dukamu, but they were together throughout much of their early lives, with Kivalon providing moral support to his brother and Trantoshen.

When Dukamu's... accident occurred, Kivalon searched far and wide for a cure for his brother's illness, but it was unlike anything their universe had ever seen. He tried his best to help Dukamu recover, but as time went on, Dukamu became more and more resistant to Kivalon's help. Eventually, Dukamu established an empire based around his new beliefs, and used whatever methods he could to get people on his side. Kivalon became a fugitive due to his opposing views and went on the run, eventually meeting up with people such as Quolas. Together, they tried to organize a resistance, but it failed due to infighting with the Claws of the Phoenix, among other reasons. Eventually, Dukamu caught up to Kivalon and used some kind of dark magic to infuse a portion of his own soul into his in order to better control him. Kivalon panicked, desperately trying to find a way to rid himself of the force that was slowly corrupting him, but to no avail.

Kivalon soon decided that it was no longer safe for him or Quolas to remain in the Dark Universe, and had the idea that experimentation with soul magnets might be able to rid Dukamu's corrupting influence from his soul. Quolas agreed, and together they devised a plan to get Kivalon into the Original Universe through the use of soul magnets. Once Quolas had Kivalon ingest an input magnet, he travelled to the Original Universe (breaching the universe's border and alerting Dukamu to his escape) to implant Kivalon's output magnet into the body of Vultraz. Quolas chose Vultraz because he had the ability to create antidermis directly from his body - so instead of Kivalon's soul being transplanted into Vultraz's body upon transferral, it would (hopefully) be transplanted into one of his new antidermis clouds instead.

The next time Vultraz created an antidermis cloud, the transfer was initiated - Kivalon's soul was torn from his body, crossed universes, and implanted itself in Vultraz's antidermis cloud. However, something happened that Quolas had not anticipated: Vultraz created two antidermis clouds at the same time instead of just one. Thus, Kivalon's soul was split in two, the first half consisting of much of his former self, and the latter half becoming a new entity named Xikila.

Arrival in the OU[edit | edit source]

The arrival of two new Makuta consciousnesses in the universe was detected by Starok, who immediately took himself, Caiaphus, Kulnak, Ordak, and Kuli to recruit them into the Reformed Second Brotherhood of Makuta. The cloud that was Kivalon was not only traumatized by the transferral procedure, but also still in the process of being corrupted by Dukamu's influence. All of these stressors occurring at once broke what was left of his sanity, rendering him mute while his subconsciousness tried to piece his mind back together.

The wordless Kivalon and Xikila followed Starok and his minions to Fareste, where they were made a new set of Makuta armor to inhabit, which they then split into two so they had two bodies to walk in. When Kivalon next spoke, it was with the voice and words of Dukamu, who had succeeded in corrupting most of Kivalon's soul and seizing control of his body. When asked of his relation to Vultraz, "Kivalon" cursed the Matoran, labelling him as a burden that he had been waiting to escape from. He then used his new body to absorb Vultraz, crushing the Matoran and adding his mass to his own. "Kivalon" identified Caiaphus as the only one in the room that has "seen Death", so he pledged allegiance to him while secretly plotting to turn the TrSBoM into an extension of his own empire somewhere down the line.

Investigating Ailyb-Gypte[edit | edit source]

Once they had all gotten to know each other, Caiaphus suggested that they go to Ailyb-Gypte to investigate what Blackout's Brotherhood were doing. "Kivalon" agreed, so Caiaphus assigned him to find the planet's leader with him and Starok. After arriving on the planet via one of Ordak's wormholes, "Kivalon", Starok, and Caiaphus snuck on board the Pale Fire to eavesdrop on the meeting between Ra and Barricade. Instead, "Kivalon" eavesdropped on his own allies and heard Starok telepathically request a meeting with Ra, which the Osirian accepted.

When Caiaphus exited the ship, "Kivalon" followed him to a large metal container embedded in the sand, which, to his surprise, contained Black Six. "Kivalon" briefly scanned his mind and identified him as a "transdimensional" being, which impressed him somewhat. A cold conversation with the former admin followed, after which said admin escaped his chains and trapped the two Makuta in the container behind him. While thinking of ways to escape, "Kivalon" was struck by fragmented memories of Dukamu's life, which gave him the rather foolish and unnecessary idea to bypass the sixth dimension to escape (when they could have just teleported out using their Kraata teleportation powers instead). Caiaphus followed "Kivalon"'s lead and the two teleported out of the container, shattering their armor in the process - though Caiaphus didn't complain much because he had just learned a new skill. However, "Kivalon"'s inexplicable knowledge of the workings of reality gained his attention. Caiaphus told Starok that he thought "Kivalon" knew more than he was letting on, so they decided that they would jump him at the opportune moment and force him to reveal the true extent of his knowledge.

Once they had teleported back to the TrSBoM's headquarters on Stelta-Stal (minus Kulnak, who had been captured by the BoM), Caiaphus tested "Kivalon"'s abilities by attacking him with Kraata powers. The main thing that Caiaphus learned during this exercise was that "Kivalon" was easily distracted; which was something that Starok exploited by knocking him with his Sleep power immediately afterwards. Starok handed the unconscious "Kivalon" over to Caiaphus and invited him to enter his mind.

Bad Memories[edit | edit source]

Caiaphus dug deep into "Kivalon"'s mind, coming across a memory, or a nightmare, that the original Kivalon had. In this nightmare, they found themselves on the street of a metropolis that was suddenly attacked by a formless, godlike entity. This unnamed entity (Dukamu) rained horrors on the city and stated that the destruction would continue until Kivalon returned to him. When Caiaphus placed his hands on the projection of Kivalon, an extension of Dukamu's consciousness found them, forcing the scene to change to a hospital wing. It was then that Caiaphus was able to speak with the real Kivalon - at least, the part of his soul that had not yet been corrupted by Dukamu - and gain some answers. Kivalon told Caiaphus all about his quest to escape his brother, the fate of his home universe, and Dukamu's ongoing crusade to find him. However, Kivalon did not tell him Dukamu's name, so Caiaphus was unable to make the connection that Kivalon was the brother of an alternate Kakamu.

Kivalon begged Caiaphus for his help in retrieving his sister, who was once a part of his own spirit, so that they could merge again and become a more stable being. Caiaphus agreed to help Kivalon with the understanding that Kivalon would help solve some of his problems, too. Caiaphus exited Kivalon's mind and sent Starok and the other TrSBoM members on a mission to Neo Z'Traa so that they would be occupied while he and Kivalon visited Kivalon's first suggested destination: Vassilan.

Encounter on Vassilan[edit | edit source]

At this point in the RPG, Caiaphus's intervention in Kivalon's mind had caused whatever was left of Kivalon's original consciousness to surface and regain control of his body. When he and Caiaphus stepped foot on Vassilan, Kivalon sensed the presence of his brother, stating that Dukamu had been there before (a reference to when Dukamu travelled to Vassilan and fought DU Le Chiffre years ago). They made their way to a nearby Drone Systems Inc. facility, but were fired upon by two drones, who had been programmed to defend the facility against Makuta ever since Nyatera's meeting with Blackout. Kivalon and Caiaphus began fighting the drones, but Kivalon stopped when he suddenly sensed the presence of his brother again. This presence was revealed to be Shattered Mirror Kakamu, who was attacking the drone facility for an unrelated reason. Kivalon attacked SMK, believing him to be Dukamu, but SMK immobilized Kivalon and explained that he was not his brother. When asked about his brother, Kivalon revealed that his name was Dukamu. It was then that Caiaphus realized that Kivalon was the brother of an alternate Kakamu, so he suddenly became far more interested in him. SMK told them that Dukamu had forced him to work for him for a while, but he eventually escaped. Now that he had exacted revenge against the Vassila, SMK offered Caiaphus his help, so Caiaphus recruited him into the TrSBoM.

The Battle of Stelta-Stal[edit | edit source]

The three Makuta then teleported back to Stelta-Stal, where they discovered that their allies in the TrSBoM had been building an army of Rahkshi to combat Blackout's Brotherhood of Makuta. Xikila was among them, so Kivalon went over to talk to her as himself for the first time. While Xikila seemed friendly and docile for most of their conversation, she turned violently angry when Kivalon suggested that they fight back against Dukamu, suggesting that some of Dukamu's corruption had spread to her too. Starok and Ordak knocked Xikila out with their sleep power, freeing Kivalon from her grasp. Kivalon decided to help the Makuta prepare to invade Stelta-Stal while he pondered Xikila's words.

Then, Ricochet appeared in the chamber by accident. After a tense conversation, he agreed to ally with them against Blackout, which was good timing, because Blackout's fleet arrived at the planet moments later looking for them.

All hell broke loose around Kivalon as Blackout and friends stormed the chamber. Kivalon woke Xikila and tried to escape with her, but Overlord Blackout stopped them by hurling lightning and a chair at them. Kivalon destroyed the chair, but was hit by the lightning, momentarily dazing him and giving OB a window of opportunity to hit him with a blast of sonics. Before Kivalon could respond, OB followed up with a large blast of shadow energy that damaged his armor and mask. Seeing that her brother was injured, Xikila grabbed Kivalon and teleported him to a safe location, giving him time to heal.

The Mazkertis Paradox[edit | edit source]

In Chapter 4 of The Mazkertis Paradox, it was revealed that whatever process Xikila used to heal Kivalon also had the effect of empowering the Dukamu-corrupted portion of his soul, allowing Dukamu's influence to corrupt him once again. "Kivalon" returned to Stelta-Stal after the battle and found SMK, who was attempting to use Starok's thought transmitter to contact the remnants of his Shattered Mirror Universe army and order them to return home. "Kivalon" called SMK a traitor - SMK thought that he was referring to his abandonment of the TrSBoM in their hour of need, when in actuality "Kivalon" was referring to the fact that SMK had defected from Dukamu's legion. "Kivalon" tried to manipulate SMK into sneaking into the UG and killing Dukamu's army, to see if he could become genocidal like him - but this suggestion disgusted SMK, who had decided to turn a new leaf, so he punched "Kivalon" into a nearby stasis pod and activated it, trapping him inside for the foreseeable future.
