This article is about the bloke who was just waiting for a mate. For other characters named James, see James (disambiguation).

James is a human man who appears to be in a perpetual state of drunken confusion. He was one of the many characters who attended Kartouche's concert on Tybion, so he was subsequently caught up in the Battle of the Log Cabin and the crash on Meme World. Rather than ditch Franz by leaving Meme World with the other departing joke characters, James chose to stay behind to wait for his mate to return.

History[edit | edit source]

Waiting on Tybion[edit | edit source]

In 150,084 CMT, James attended Kartouche's concert on Tybion, but he appeared to have crashed his car inside the venue. Car Guard noticed James's confused expression, so he asked him what was wrong: James told Car Guard that he was just waiting for a mate. Car Guard asked James what his mate's name was, to which he replied "James", so Car Guard asked him what his own name was, to which he also replied "James". Car Guard simply shook his head in confusion and walked away.[1]

Waiting on the Log Cabin[edit | edit source]

James was one of the characters who fled the concert venue and took shelter in Hungry-man's giant log cabin when an army of Ta'har stormed the venue with the intention of killing everyone who they saw as having defiled their land. Unfortunately, these Ta'har chased James and the other concert attendees onto the log cabin, so they became cornered and were forced to fight back. In the battle that followed, James charged at the army of Ta'har[2] and ran one over with his battered but still-functioning car. With the combined might of their meme magic, the concert attendees eventually forced the surviving Ta'har to retreat.[3] Caged Pills expressed his concern that the Ta'har surrender might have been a ruse, but James replied that he didn't care, because he was only there to wait for his mate.[4]

To everyone's surprise, James's mate, Franz, eventually returned. Franz tried to get into James's car, but he was stopped by Bill "CIA" Wilson, who told James that he "didn't get to bring Franz". In an attempt to bypass CIA's authority, James asked him if he was a federal officer of the law, but CIA replied that he was, so James switched tactics by telling CIA that there would be no charge for Franz because "he knows how to 'ave fun with his m8s". CIA accepted this, so he allowed Franz to enter the car and told Hungry-man and Car Guard that CIA would "call it in".[5] Hungry-man also climbed into James's car,[6] but Car Guard and Space Ryan Gosling started arguing about who would drive. James told them that Franz would,[7] but the argument persisted regardless.[8]

When Goldenn Flame was killed by Ta'harva, James paid his respects to the fallen warrior by saying "RIP in peace, m8".[9]

Later, James lost Franz again, so he sat in his car and stared at a wall. He silently blamed CIA for Franz's disappearance, because he knew that CIA didn't like Franz, or anyone's friends for that matter.[10] His thoughts were interrupted by the sudden appearance of an unknown girl in the seat next to him, who honked the car's horn and gloated about the fact that she was in James's mate's car.[11] James thought that she was making fun of his mate, so he angrily asked her who she was,[12] but an older woman arrived and told the girl to get out of "her" car. The girl got out and ran away,[13] so James grinned and allowed the older woman to sit next to him while he waited for Franz to return.[14]

Waiting on Meme World[edit | edit source]

Franz eventually returned to James, but the log cabin they were travelling on crashed on Meme World soon afterwards, trapping them both under debris.[15] Fortunately, they managed to break free with Carrots and Hide the Pain Harold.[16]

Later, James and Franz were seen among the crash survivors who had moved into a makeshift camp on the planet's surface.[17] They both burst into tears upon witnessing members of the Dong Squad preparing a funeral for their fallen comrades.[18]

James was one of the characters who Ade tried to recruit into a team to help her win the Terugan Civil War, but he rejected her offer because he was waiting for his mate to return, implying that Franz had disappeared once again.[19]
