Etende Rhaloff is a former scrapper who became stranded on Ahura when her ship was shot down over the surface of the planet.

History[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

In 4 AR, Etende was a student of mechanical engineering who attended the same university as Jarvis Silverwood and Kensa Udiyombe on Ordon III, becoming close friends with both and eventually becoming engaged to Jarvis, who was also her childhood crush, after they graduated. It seemed like Etende had her entire life laid out for her, but it all fell apart when Jarvis was offered a senior researcher position at Monarch ElectroDynamics, a prominent off-world corporation, and learned that his ticket there was for him only. As much as Etende hated to admit it, Jarvis had always been more interested in his blueprints than her, and she found herself being unceremoniously dumped, her former fiancé catching a shuttle to the corporation's headquarters on Ordon V the following morning. Enraged, Etende immersed herself in a world of her own inventions as a way to cope with the pain of rejection, hammering out designs that she hoped would lift her away from Ordon III, a world that now seemed to remind her only of her failures. She completed a prototype for a lightweight solar-powered exoskeleton with wings that would enable the wearer to fly with the agility and effortlessness of a bird, but none of the corporations she reached out to seemed interested in the design, instead looking for inventions that were more weaponized, due to the growing instability in the galactic region. Etende was a pacifist, seeing machines as a means to improve lives rather than end them, so she found herself tearing down her drawing board, resolving to leave the Ordon system another way.[1]

Eventually, Etende saw a chance to leave Ordon III when Kensa offered her a job with Kensa & Associates, a space salvage business he had established after graduating that often took him beyond the reaches of the system. Unbeknownst to Etende, Kensa & Associates also engaged in piracy, stripping ships for parts while their pleading owners were being held at gunpoint inside. However, she found herself turning a blind eye more often than not, because Kensa's victims were usually pirates and other unsavories. Over the next few years, Etende grew stronger and learned how to fight due to the nature of the job, though she still considered herself a pacifist.[1]

Arrival on Ahura[edit | edit source]

In 7 AR, Etende learned that Kensa had received information that claimed that the perennial war in the Ahura system was finally dying down, leaving behind an entire planet full of valuable scrap that would set the scavengers for life if they could get their hands on it first. Unfortunately, the intel was too good to be true, and the Kensa & Associates fleet emerged from hyperspace to find themselves in an active warzone occupied by the two factions that were still vying for control of the planet. The ship that Etende was on was shot down over Ahura and crashed in the outskirts of a desolate former metropolis. Etende was the only survivor of the crash, shielded from the impact by a makeshift exoskeleton that she had put together just for fun. Out of the wreckage, Etende managed to build a water synthesizer that kept her fed for the following two months along with whatever food rations she could scavenge from the bodies. When the rations finally started to run out, Etende decided to arm herself and venture out into the city, hoping to find another source of food or rescue.[1]

As she entered the city, Etende searched a pile of bodies only to find that whoever piled the bodies had already stripped them of supplies. Upon turning to leave, one of the 'bodies' grabbed her ankle and started begging for help, causing her to panic and flee deeper into the city. When spider tank emerged from behind a crumbling apartment complex, Etende hid behind a concrete ruin and waited for it to pass before continuing her journey.[2]
