Misaki Masaki Raregroove was the Empress of Jurai and the mother of Zev Raregroove, Tamao Glory, and by adoption, Anna Raregroove. She seemed to be orders of magnitudes more focused on mothering her children than having anything to do with governing Jurai or its empire. Misaki was possessed of incredible physical strength, and seemed to elicit some fear from Zev.

Unknown to everyone but the Chousin and Mazkertis, Misaki was actually the civilian identity of the Counter-Actor, a being created by the Users capable of nullifying the Chousin's powers and undoing their actions in case they ever stepped out of line. The Counter-Actor manifested as a split personality within Misaki that took on a different appearance; it seemed that Misaki herself was not actually aware of the Counter-Actor's existence. Unfortunately, the Counter-Actor was been let loose by Mazkertis as part of his plan, leaving her current whereabouts unknown.

Description[edit | edit source]

Misaki Raregroove was just about the most happy-go-lucky, positive, loving person you could ever meet. She liked to act as a mother-figure/sister-figure to almost everyone she interacted with. On the usual given day, Misaki simply radiated sugar, no spice, and everything nice. Despite her predominately airheaded personality, she had a deep understanding of other people and was an expert in psychology. She was also quite protective of her "baby" boy, Zev Raregroove. However, her happiness and love weren't her only extreme emotions: Her rage could be downright terrifying, and when she became distressed (which was what would usually happen if she ever tripped and fell), she was likely to start openly bawling. Tears of joy, also common. Finally, it was not advisable to imply in any way, shape or form that she was 'old' -- One dumbass mentions a wrinkle and we've got the sky cracking again. In the event you ignore this warning, these words will save you: "I'm so sorry that I offended you, pretty young lady."[1]

The Counter-Actor[edit | edit source]

The full situation has not been explained, but when the Architect was critically injured, Misaki went completely berserk and gained some kind of transformation: Her clothes were obliterated, but replaced by what looked to be crimson dark matter in a form that resembled a strapless dress and elbow-height gloves. Also, the twin green marks on her forehead became an angry, dark red patch. As the Counter-Actor, Misaki was easily able to fight off two of the Chousin - only Zev's presence seemed to be able to calm this form's rage.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Previous Events[edit | edit source]

At some point, Misaki attacked a fortress occupied by a group of ogres and caused so much damage to the building that it took them eight months to repair it.[2]

Here Comes Misaki![edit | edit source]

In 150,080 CMT, Misaki paid a visit to the Sōja to be reunited with her son, Zev Raregroove. When Ryoko Hakubi answered the door instead of Zev, Misaki mistook her for her son and wrapped her in a spine-crushing bear hug while criticising "him" for assuming the form of a "whorish swine" - not the best first impression Misaki had ever made on someone. Once Ryoko pointed out the real Zev, Misaki promptly dropped her and enveloped Zev in another one of her spine-crushing bear hugs, where she revealed to the room that it was she, not Washu, who was the real mother of Zev, explaining that she had merely left Zev in Washu's care while she took care of other business.[3] While Zev and Ryoko soothed their aching backs, Misaki visited one of the Sōja's high-tech kitchens and returned with plates of bacon-wrapped hot dogs that she handed to Zev and Ryoko, which Ryoko actually found delicious.[4]

When Anzu teleported aboard the Sōja along with Dr. Doppler and Tyrigosa and enveloped Zev in shadow energy in an attempt to force him to leave Malygos alone,[5] Misaki reacted to the threat to her son by incapacitating Doppler and punching Anzu at such incredible speeds that it seemed almost like teleportation. Zev then used the Sōja's Control Cube to reverse time inside the ship and undo the skirmish so that he could explain to Anzu that he and Malygos were on the same side due to their shared allegiance to Washu and hatred of Blackout.[6] After Misaki persuaded Zev to get back to his feet by threatening to recite his father's stock reports if he didn't,[7] Misaki disappeared into the kitchen[8] and returned with three plates of loco moco that she served to Anzu, Doppler, and Tyrigosa in an attempt to break the ice. Misaki then went to practice her fencing in the training room.[9]

After Zev asked Anzu to guess how long Misaki would take to beat all settings of the training room,[9] Doppler calculated that she would take approximately 15 minutes and 12.3253 seconds considering her strength, speed, and skill level. He thought that he was proven right when Misaki emerged from the training room in exactly that amount of time[10] until Zev pointed out that Misaki had beat the simulations so fast, she had spent six minutes of that timeframe making a grape-blueberry swirl slushy.[11]

The Pandorica Opens[edit | edit source]

Later, Malygos teleported everyone aboard the Sōja (Misaki, Anzu, Doppler, Ryoko, Tyrigosa, Washu, and Zev) as well as himself to Blackout's location aboard Darkmount to stop him from activating the Pandorica.[12] Blackout immediately teleported them all to the Shadows and Fire Dimension so that they could watch the Pandorica open without being able to interfere. He then attempted to strand them in the dimension by teleporting back to Darkmount without them, but Washu was able to easily teleport herself, Misaki, Ryoko, and Zev back to the Sōja.[13]

The Counter-Actor Revealed[edit | edit source]

The Counter-Actor battling Tokimi in her dimension.

When Misaki heard a rumor that the group of ogres she had previously encountered might be plotting against Zev, she spiralled into an uncontrollable rage and flew off to confront them, followed by the concerned Ryoko and Washu. Misaki destroyed the front gate of the ogres' fortress with her bare hands and rampaged through the ground floor before leaping up to the office of the Business Ogre, where she demanded to be told who was planning on hurting her "baby boy". Although Misaki subsequently achieved her goal by throwing the Business Ogre to the ground,[2] her rage intensified rather than subsided because the Architect was then stabbed by Blackout elsewhere in the multiverse, which weakened the Architect to a point where he was no longer able to "hold back" the Counter-Actor. After the Counter-Actor killed all the other ogres in the room, Washu drew her in through a portal to Tokimi's dimension so that the Chousin could attempt to contain her there. Tsunami tried to reason with the Counter-Actor, but received a brutal backhand in response, so Tokimi ordered Washu to find Zev in the hope that he would be more successful. While Washu began searching all of space for Zev, the Counter-Actor engaged Tokimi in combat, hurling two stone pillars that Tokimi proceeded to disintegrate.[14]

Tokimi threw a punch, but the Counter-Actor caught it and used her momentum to hurl Tokimi into an altar that sat at the middle of the dimension. Tokimi responded by summoning several flying cylindrical drones that attempted to restrain the Counter-Actor with binding cords, but she shattered the cords without effort and caused the drones to explode simply by roaring. Before the Counter-Actor could do the same to the Chousin, Washu located Zev and teleported him in front of the Counter-Actor, which momentarily stunned them both.[14] The presence of Zev caused the Counter-Actor to transform back into Misaki, who collapsed into Zev's arms and began to cry.[15]

While Misaki recovered from her ordeal aboard the Sōja, Ryoko told Zev that the Counter-Actor would not have been awakened if he had been there to stop Misaki from going after the ogres. Zev agreed, indicating that both he and Ryoko thought that the Counter-Actor was awakened by rage alone and not because of other factors, such as the Architect's temporary injury.[15]

Abilities & Powers[edit | edit source]

  • Incredible Strength: Misaki possessed ridiculous strength even for a Juraian. She was so strong that a bearhug to her son rendered him temporarily unable to stand up, even with his incredibly strong body.[1]
  • Incredible Speed: Though it hasn't been fully seen, she seemed to have great speed: moving about four meters after an enemy she had struck (Anzu) at such high speeds that it almost seemed like teleportation.[1]
  • Forest Generation: One of Misaki's abilities seemed to be producing large amounts of trees, roots, and vines from seemingly nowhere. She could also manipulate the plant matter freely.[1]
  • Shikigami: Misaki displayed the ability to summon and control massive numbers of weak shikigami, which were essentially Familiar-Type Spirits.[1]
    • Shikigami Kooni: Tiny sprites formed around leaves, they had the advantage in that, since they required little energy input, they could be summoned and controlled en masse.[1]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Misaki Raregroove is an adaptation of the character Misaki Jurai from the Tenchi Muyo! anime/manga series.[1]
  • Apparently, one of Misaki's specialities was to cook bacon-wrapped hotdogs.[1]
  • In a terrifying turn of events, Misaki beat the Soja's training simulations in around nine minutes, even though Zev himself was unable to beat the last two settings. Apparently, craters were made in the training room.[1]
  • Zev, Misaki's son, revealed in passing that his Royal Tree was named Misaki in honor of his mother.[1]
  • Misaki's Dying Will Flame appeared to be the Rain Flame.[1]
